What is the general opinion of having sheets of paper on the inside wall of a DB.
I work many factories where A4 sheets are sellotaped to the inside wall of a 3 phase DB.

I had a job today where I had to remove all sheets inside - copy them, laminate them and stick them on the outside of the enclosure after the H&S manager on the site identified it as a risk.

Unfortunately you'll always get people who walk off with the documents but if we build a panel our contact details are always plastered all over the inside and we keep documentation on record for every panel we've ever made.

A wallet as Marvo said was my way. If it’s a panel the relevant drawings go in it, a DB the circuit allocation.

On larger plants there would be a vertical hang drawing file in the switch room. Some plants could have 100’s of A0 drawings. Each panel had a reference, you just looked up that reference in the files.

For smaller stuff the wallet can’t be bettered. But like everything, if people don’t update them your f@$ked!

As for the H&S idiot, just point out the dangers of incorrect/illegible/inaccessible drawings

Nail on head, purpose made wallet sheets inside, not sheets of A4 flapping about stuck with tape which loses its 'sticky' after a time.

Agree, do the same myself....but H&S is another matter.

Just where is this bl**dy country going ?

Much more important things to think about as far as I'm concerned.

Funny, most decent DB/panel manufacturers always provide a means of accomodating drawing or circuit arrangement schedules on the ''inside'' of the door. Having that means on the outside of the DB, is just asking for trouble, if not in a locked or staff access only room.

In our main switchboard rooms, we have provided a lockable steel cabinet for all associated drawings and schedules along with maintenance manual and all other related documentations etc...

It's about time the UK started to come down hard on these self perpetuating, more trouble than they're worth H&S officials, they are now costing the country millions in lost exports due to companies being unable to be competitive on costings....

Was decomisioning a plantroom ready for new pumps, boilers etc.

The panel drawings were completely useless. old, damaged and faded beyond recognition

(Yes my spelling and sentence structer is terrible)

I love it when I see "As fitted" on drawings.

Treat with the same contempt as Chocolate teatpot, Marshmallow hammer, The Economy is improving and Global Warming.

If a D.B is hot enough to set fire to paper schedules, then it's going to go up in flames anyway.
The smell of burning paper, if it did happen, is more likey to alert people to the fire.

That statement should be treated with the contempt it deserves!!

The ''As Fitted'' or more commonly shown as an ''As Built'' stamp on drawings means that the drawing has gone through a system of checking by a supervisory body from initial concept drawings to final As Built status. If that installation has been altered over time by professionally inept or cowboy contractors, that haven't shown or noted any changes made to any said drawing, that's another matter altogether.

As on any older installation where it's evident that alterations have been made, you as a qualified electrician should be undertaking you're own checks and balances for any changes that may of been made.

The signed stamp ''As Fitted'' or ''As Built'' designation on a drawing, is a final legal and contractual document on the initial installation...

And why British H&S engineers are quite literally blacklisted as a whole from any overseas projects. Both the client and main contractors want to be able to finish projects on time and within budget. They don't want their hands tied behind their backs spending most of their day's trying to comply with some idiots own concepts on H&S. They are actually seen by many international contractors as project Saboteurs!! lol!!

The last time i have seen British H&S engineers employed overseas was on the sudo Government MTRC project. They cost them so much money and time, that on the future stage phases of the project, they wouldn't entertain them anymore and went instead for Assuie and Kiwi H&S Engineers....
