What is the general opinion of having sheets of paper on the inside wall of a DB.
I work many factories where A4 sheets are sellotaped to the inside wall of a 3 phase DB.

I had a job today where I had to remove all sheets inside - copy them, laminate them and stick them on the outside of the enclosure after the H&S manager on the site identified it as a risk.

That statement should be treated with the contempt it deserves!!

The ''As Fitted'' or more commonly shown as an ''As Built'' stamp on drawings means that the drawing has gone through a system of checking by a supervisory body from initial concept drawings to final As Built status. If that installation has been altered over time by professionally inept or cowboy contractors, that haven't shown or noted any changes made to any said drawing, that's another matter altogether.

As on any older installation where it's evident that alterations have been made, you as a qualified electrician should be undertaking you're own checks and balances for any changes that may of been made.

The signed stamp ''As Fitted'' or ''As Built'' designation on a drawing, is a final legal and contractual document on the initial installation...

E54 with respect, sorry I can’t agree with:

I’ve wasted weeks of my life checking and correcting f**k ups made by drawing offices.
I’ll not just vent my spleen on electrical draughtsmen, mechanical are as bad. We had a draughtsman with the initials BAW (Burn And Weld).

I took delivery of a five new MCC’s. I refused to accept them. No way, No how, would they have worked! The up shot was I ripped them to pieces and rebuilt them on site, doing the drawings as I went along.

I opened a wylex rewireable once in a house in the village & there was a letter from the owner to a prior trades person, complaining about this that and the other.... You can probably get the gist....it was a warning!!!!

The problem I have Tony this that sometimes the guys on site don't do the install to my drawings. They don't tell me that they are doing it differently or why and they don't mark up the schematics so that I can update them to what was done on site.

Well i can assure you that on every new project i've ever worked on, after the initial ''Approved for Construction'' drawings go out on to site, installations are checked against drawings at every stage of the installation. Any revisions or changes made to an installation requirements, a new revised drawing is submitted showing changes in red clouds. There could be (during the contract period) quite a few revisions made too. The last revision becoming the contract ''As Built'' status drawing. As i say, things are not left to draughtsmen/electrical foreman, and any mistakes they may make, both the installation and the drawings are checked at each stage/revision, by the project supervisory staff. It's all very contractual too!! lol!!

It's basically the same sort of thing as the checks and balances you carried out on those MCC panels. You ended up with a system that was built ''as was'' and reflected in the revised drawings that you produced...

One thing I’m glad of, I avoided being seconded to the drawing office. It had been planned for me.

The funny thing, I enjoyed having my office next to the plant. I could escape in to the real world.

Then your company needs a system of checks and balances to be put in place. If you know what's going on, then do someting about it!!

Sorry kid, I didn’t spot your post.

To me on site alterations are a fact of life. But, and this is major BUT, any modifications are recorded and passed on to the drawing office. A site copy is always to hand.

Once passed to the drawing office it will be at the bottom of a pile while the plant is up and running.

The drawings arrive three months late!

Or get buried in the bottom of a draw never to see the light of day

True Eng54. I have tried and tried to get things sorted but im just an elec design engineer and a necessary evil... You can only bang your head against a wall so many times before you have to stop...

I know that mods are going to happen on site mate, I would just like to know about them. Unfortunately there are people who view knowledge as power so dont pass on any info. The world is full of ----... not a lot I can do about that...
