"To comply with Part P, you must either – (i) use an electrician who is registered with a Competent Person’s scheme (ask your electrician for details), in which case a Building Regulations application will not be required for the electrical work; or, (ii) use an electrician who is registered with a recognised trade body such as NCEIC, ECA & NAPIT, etc.., and who will issue a ‘design, installation and test’ certificate under"

So if your an electrician who isn't registered with a CPS (i), or registered with a trade body (ii), you can't comply with Part P?

Dont shoot the messenger iam just quoting from from a pdf from the LABC. But if youlook at my other post you will see a list of notifiable and none notifiable work. Just depends what actual work is being done i suppose.

dont forget that by being registered you can also offer a 6 year guarantee on your works and this is normally a deal clincher when submitting quotes and wins me 90% of my work ;)

I was working for someone but thinking of going on my own.
I didn't know you got the guarantee through being registered, thought this was through your own insurance.

Shows what i thought i new

I have been looking at ELECSA
And they say that
"Guarantee Insurance Provider - You must be able to offer insurance with your guarantees and we will require the details of your provider. This is a requirement of the scheme but is not required to pass the initial assessment as details can be provided after the assessment."
But i will be certainly looking into others.
£1.50 per job not bad if only doing small amount of jobs, but say 4 jobs a day 5 days a week 52 weeks a year. You know were i am going with this.
The total being £1560.
Going on that alone surely it would be cheeper getting own personal insurance.

But what do i know
http://www.elecsa.co.uk/reqs_costs.aspx

the way i understood the insurance backed guarentee is that its a service you can offer clients at an extra cost to them. but hey i could be wrong.;)

Well forget what i said last then.
£1.50 and charge it to customer if they wanted it doesn't seem that bad, but still needed if going with ELECSA maybe i shoud look some were else.

your quite right, but if you was pricing against me and i was offering an insurance backed guarantee through the NIC and you was offering to insure the work yourself who do you think the customer would opt for:rolleyes:

No i do agree with you, all i was saying is i didn't or wasn't aware of doing that through NIC, but as i said £1.50 and charging it to the customer, it would't matter even if say it was £5 and you said do you want an insurance backed guarantee through NIC for 5 years at the cost of £5. It is up to them.

It just sounds good as you wrightly said just because of the NIC bit.

I think there needs to be a touch of reality here, 4 jobs a day for five days a week, and it may just be beneficail to have your own insurance, but I can tell you now, if we were all doing that then for six months of the year we would all be sat on a beach in barbados with the ferarri sat waiting in the garage., The training centers would be screeming 5,000,0000 electricians short this year etc.

do you offer your own insurance on work completed?? never thought of it myself but if you know what the premiums are or who offers such a servise it might be worth considering ;)
