Anybody bein caught, and convicted of carrying out notifyable work without notifying building control, i dont mean cowboys, i mean fully qualified electricians who took the chance, just wondered whether this law since 2005 has strung anybody up ;););)

nothing, just crossed my mind, everyone including me is cautious on what is notifyable and what isnt, im not registered to an organisation, only do repairs and p.i.r's, because i dont do enough work to justify the cost..............

I took onboard the severity of all the part P nonsense when it was introduced. I signed up straight away, happy to be assessed to the furthest degree. I then acted like an ambassador for it's purpose, shouting from the roof tops it's importance and trying to pass the word to all of the necessity to comply and register.

I have since become more and more frustrated with the lack of commitment from one of the scheme providers. They have just become more and more about the numbers as they have got bigger, and am now all about the money.

I failed to do my first notification last week and I seriously could not give a crap!!!

hahaha! yeah ive let a few notifications lasp!! also not worked to regs in certain situations i.e can i have one extra socket on rewirable fuses!! no RCd ETC!!! you know the score!! rather me do it properly that bill next door with his off cut strimmer wire!!

You will most likely find the answer is nill with a big capitol N

There has not been one prosecution where the crime was not notifying a compliant installation
Hence the complete and total waste of time abiding by the procedure

If you are not registered and have no intention of doing so, then then you are a bright spark
The rest of us are too mealy mothed to become rebelious

How many people carry out building works with out notifying building control?

Dig trenches to shallow next to cheery trees? Fit undersized lintels?

Fit boilers with out gas safe?

If you look at these cases though, they are in situations where shoddy workmanship has been carried out, and the installations have been left in dangerous conditions.

If you are fully qualified, carry out your work in accordance with the regs, test and issue certificate, then i do wonder if they would actually bother trying to take you to court just for failure to notify, especially if building control found nothing wrong with your installation.

I too am not registered at the moment, and just mainly do maintence work and non notifiable stuff, although i must admit I have chanced my arm a few times and done work that should be notified for friends and family, but made it clear to them about Part P.

I have recently gone self employed and looking at Part p registration as per a early post all the prosecutions i have found have be due to poor work.
The crazy thing is i did a 4y apprenticeship am up to speed with the lastest regs
I am allowed to work in a cheese factory or a public swimming pool but i cant put a light up in a domestic kitchen.

I am all for some kind of scheme that keeps the cowboys out but part p is not fit for purposes it encourages them

I'm totaly amazed and somewhat dismayed by this thread. I'm sure that most of us on here realise that not only electricians come on here but also DIY'ers. What is being advoacted here is, that as electricians we have no regard for the law, that we are going to openly ignore the law becasue we don't think the law is a good one.

I for one want to state clearly and categorically that though Part P is an inane law and is indeed toothless, it is a law and as a law it must be obeyed.

By saying that you are going to defy this law is going to encourage any DIY'er to do the same. Yes I would hope that the majority of the qualified electricians on here that are going to break law, and use the doctrine of well my work is just as safe as if I did it through Part P, will relalise that all this does is encourage people who are not competant to do the same.

You do realise that by not notifying your work and then issue EIC's and Receipts for your work that a paper trail will lead back to you. Of course then if we are going to not notifiiy then why do EIC's or give receipts. Lets all do it back of hand guv a grand for cash. Isn't this the very thing we are trying to eradicate from our industry.

I came home at Christmas and registered with my scheme even though I told them that I was working overseas and they accpeted me as that.I was advised that if I did work they would accept my eic's and send my usual assessor out to check it over. I should not have bothered and carried on, the same as what is being advocated on here. Perhaps it's my generation but to me the law is the law.

I'm sorry as I seem to be swimming against convention here, but what as been posted here IMO is wrong and I think someone should advocate that it is so, to the numerous non electricians that come on here.

Isnt the procedure for notifiable work not being notified is that building control can require the works to be removed? if the work is deemed to not satisfy regulations, then the person putting it in can then be prosecuted? What is all of this dissent about? Just do the job, notify building control if you have to, pay your dues and get on with it. Whats all this carping about? And to start saying that you are not going to notify jobs, is just plain irresponsible. Dont your customers matter to you? what happens when they realise that they have work on their houses done without the correct documentation? If you want to start messing about, why dont you just get out of the industry because you arnt helping anyone
