Anybody bein caught, and convicted of carrying out notifyable work without notifying building control, i dont mean cowboys, i mean fully qualified electricians who took the chance, just wondered whether this law since 2005 has strung anybody up ;););)

i hope my tongue in cheek post was not taken seriously. i agree with malcolm and gpz that we have to work within the framework of the regs. and the law. what is being said , and has been said countless times already, is that part p is a poorly thought out piece of legislation, increases costs, which we then have to pass on the the customer, who then turns round and queries why it costs £60-£80 to install an extra socket, when he can buy one from say, B&Q for £2.50. and a few meters of cable for £5. this then encourages the customer to employ a cowboy who will do the job for £25. until a sensible alternative to part p is found, we are stuck with it. we don't have to like it. one problem is the total lack od education of the public as regards part p. i would say that 7/10 customers have no idea at all what it entails, but mention corgi or gas safe, and they know they have to use a gas safe registered installer.

So we now decide which laws can or can not be obeyed.

Ok I haven't had a car accident in 30 odd years why do I need insurance.

Same why should I wear a seat belt and enforce my children to

I can have 4 or 5 pints no problem it does not affect my driving.

So what if I take a few quid of supplies from my company they have insurance they can afford it

So what if if and on and on it goes .................1 law or a 1000 laws broken

the problem is summed up in one word... APATHY. same with EU, for some reason, in this country, we let successive governments walk all over us and what do we do? roll oiver and accept it. referendum on the EU, promised by napoleon blair? forget it. control immigration, branded as racists, mis-information about climate change? the suits say it so it must be true. i.m no lover of the french, but anything their gov. does that they don't like, it's block the roads, airports, train services, total chaos, gov. backs down, end of problem. OK guys, rant of the week over.

Agree the Teletrix Malcolm and GPZ - It needs to complied with - but ...........

A builder m8 lost one on Friday - consumer unit fire, insurance claim the money came through and the boy friend of the owner is now going to do the work he's not qualified etc etc etc

Can't wait the see the outcome

We all have that choice though. The consequences of breaking the law are well known.

For all of these you will be taken to court and prosecuted. The law will be enforced hence the majority will obey the law for fear of prosecution.

as long as he notifies LABC, pays their ludicrous fee, gets that back from the insurance, all legal and compliant. till the next fire.

the" final solution" was law .

20million russians exterminated by Stalin was law

apartheid was law

But those laws were not enacted by a deomcratically elected government, though South Africa was democracy if you were white.

So they were not laws just a regimes interpretation of laws. That why wars, sanctions and other measures to topple those regimes were effected, not sure we would go to war over part P

So none of you have ever broken the speed limit or done that job for a friend and not put it through the books.
If the work you do is safe and to the correct standards and you can certificate it in your name that should be enough.

Part p
The only people who are likely to follow it are the electricians who do a safe job in the first place.
The home owner, the diyer, the kitchen fitter and the plumper doesn't understand or care.

malcolm,. i was being a bit facetious there. point being, there are democratic ways of changing bad laws, but i don't see anybody trying to change anything.

I just wish it was more publicised. You ask someone what CORGI or GAS SAFE is and they know straight away. I'm fed up of going into a house with a fault and finding a spur from a spur from a spur etc....who did this for you? I did it myself, it's worked fine for the last 10 years (with no RCD). Say to them, do you do your own gas work as well?? Oh no, you have to be GAS SAFE registered for that
