No need to bring out a card - one already exists. All that needs to happen is for it to be a legal requirement to hold a valid JIB card.

Why?
what's wrong with producing your qualifications, why the need
for plastic cards, no one is policing the industy but are happy to take your money,
I'm f*****g sick of the parasites in this industry
Indeed. But carrying a card with your qualifications printed on the back seems a wee bit handier than carrying around a lever arch file or National Record of Achievement with dozens of certificates in it.
I think the JIB card is the correct vehicle for a licence.
I found it actually quite awkward to get a JIB card. They wanted a certified copy of each of my
qualifications. When I got a renewal reminder this year I was actually told that if I fail to renew in time
I might not be entitled to get back on the JIB register.
I personally think that Part P should be in the sole control of JIB 'cos they do an in depht qualifications
check on each applicant. Why do we need 6 different schemes for Part P? Which one is the best?
I don't know.
I had the same experience, my local LABC said it took 6 weeks for the NICEIC to notify them of my work,
now I just send builing control my certs by email, (saves me ÂŁ1.50)
On topic I would ditch part "pee" altogether, when your undercut by every tom dick & harry & pay
over ÂŁ3000 to middlemen before the work comes in I can honestly say part "p" is a massive failure (does anyone actually police it !!)
Hi all looking at taking the part p as i install kitchens bedrooms and bathrooms, i cant seem to get my head around what course's i need to do to install ,lighting, cookers, sockets ,etc and certify my work ? at the moment i have a mate who is fully apprentice/college qualified to 17th but no part p ? if i take part p can i certify his work? if so what sort of system is this?how can somebody with a 5 day course be more aware of safety in electrical situations than a man of 5 years training, education, experience, i agree government money maker> Still what courses do i need to do to be deemed competent for installation situations in kitchens bedrooms bathrooms.
Regards
Tom Dick & Harry.

Yes I'm wondering why it has not been in the media much. I reckon that they are waiting to cash in on fines. All a money making scheme.
IT needs public awareness like CO.
One customer wanted me to wire a shower from a light circuit and got really offended when I told him its just simply not safe or practical and against regs.
He thought I was trying to rip him off and claimed he new about electrics and said he'll get his mate to do it. I think Part P is a good thing it just needs to come correct,
With regards to policing the domestic work there is only one body of professionals with enough clout to make Mr DIY think twice and thats insurance companies. Its in their best interest (reduces their risk) by ensuring works are completed by competent persons. There are clauses in most policies that insist on work being completed correctly, but are buried under tons of other clauses.
Just my thoughts......................
