Who else experiences thefts/attempted thefts of their tools etc. whilst on-site? The decorators today tried twice to put my stepladders on their van - both times saying, "sorry mate - thought they were ours". Yeah, right, course you did. Last week had a almost full roll of 1.5mm T&E disappear from site. It's just not right.

i know aint easy but i do try keep my stuff beside me on big sites... and when you working with boys who say you got a spanner , marker, etc they always leave up in ceiling ontop of light or something..

On one job alone I had my rod set, crimpers and some odds n sods go walkies. What got me most was how there were only 2, maybe 3 lads who could have done it, and some gentle 'can you keep your eyes open for, seem to have mislaid....' didn't prompt some honesty out of them.

I always keep my 'key tools' (terminal driver, wire strippers etc.) in my pockets and so far the only time these have disappeared is when I've left them somewhere stupid. But the big stuff I mentioned really annoyed me, it's just blatant theft. The T&E made a big dent in my earnings for that job - I'd already stripped the quote back to the bone.

ive had plenty of stuff go over the years, drills, radio etc..... even walked back into the plot i was in to find the ground workers going through my stuff :( . Atleast the site manager was supportive when i kicked off, he phone there gaffa and got them sacked for gross misconduct.

I found some of our European friends going through my gear on a large site i was working in so i opened effective communications with said person. I had one hand on his throat pinned against the wall and explained that was not the done thing over here. At the end of the day these guys are not just nicking our tools and other gear...they are taking our lively hood because we depend on the gear to make our living. There is just no need for this to be going on.

^^^ yeah, that's the double whammy. Nick our work AND our tools.

My personal bug-bear is lending tools out to some-one on site who says i'll be back in 10 mins , then 6 hrs later youre wandering round looking for it.
As for out-right theft ? big mistake if anyone tries it , i'll be going home with the main fuse / mcb in my pocket - everyone can sit in darkness till my gear is returned.
