Who else experiences thefts/attempted thefts of their tools etc. whilst on-site? The decorators today tried twice to put my stepladders on their van - both times saying, "sorry mate - thought they were ours". Yeah, right, course you did. Last week had a almost full roll of 1.5mm T&E disappear from site. It's just not right.

I was working on a site that had a big geny running all the power tools. It was in the front garden and we were in the house, suddenly the drills all stopped, thought it had run out of petrol so strolled round to check, only to find geny gone and a van accelerating up the road!

Was working in a nice area of Nottingham or so I thought, when someone brazenly took the drill out the back of the van. What made it more audacious was the fact I was napping in the front during my lunch hour!!! Amazingly they left the test gear sitting next to it! Harsh lesson learned and put a end to a dreadful week.
years ago was doing a shopfit in clifton notts and about 2 am one of the joiners told me there was a large coloured bloke messing with my van, anyway went out and asked what he was doing and he said he was trying to get the lightbar off as he wanted one,at which point I produced an axe which the joiner had handed me earlier and politely informed him that interfering with the van could harm his health!Flaming cheek right outside a shop with all the lights on and about 6 blokes inside.

Clifton, I try to avoid, along with Bulwell, as thing will just grow legs and walk even if ya wearing it!

On one job alone I had my rod set, crimpers and some odds n sods go walkies. What got me most was how there were only 2, maybe 3 lads who could have done it, and some gentle 'can you keep your eyes open for, seem to have mislaid....' didn't prompt some honesty out of them.

And whats worse in these situatations i think is that when there's only a few candidates, chances are it's someone you've been chatting to and having a laugh with who's had you over.

I grew up in Snapewood back in the 80s lol Back then it was not so shabby lol My parents still live there so I only go when the need arises. My mum won't sell and move lol I hate the place now!

I work on pumping stations ect all over Kent, Sussex,Hampshire and Windsor. I'm prone to forgetting stuff, but it never gets touched. Our subbies leave everything alone, and there seems to be mutual respect ect. As the contract expands, then I wonder how long that continues.

That happened to us in Leicester where we fed in armoured for a large student accommodation complex and next day it had gone, amazing how quickly thieves can move things which take days to get in!

My personal bug-bear is lending tools out to some-one on site who says i'll be back in 10 mins , then 6 hrs later youre wandering round looking for it.
As for out-right theft ? big mistake if anyone tries it , i'll be going home with the main fuse / mcb in my pocket - everyone can sit in darkness till my gear is returned.
never lend tools out Biff...it aint theirs and as such the incentive just isnt there to look after them......besides...you get your stuff for YOU to use...no one else...why the hell should something you worked for and laid out hard earned cash for earn someone else money......if they havn`t got something they needed on the van then this says 2 things about em..
1)bad planners.....they didn`t look/understand/survey the job properly...this is bad planning....so god knows what their circuit design will be like and..
2)not possessing the right equipment to undertake any tasks they may have to perform in their job/daily duties.....thats amature by any reckoning....
