People nicking your stuff on-site

Who else experiences thefts/attempted thefts of their tools etc. whilst on-site? The decorators today tried twice to put my stepladders on their van - both times saying, "sorry mate - thought they were ours". Yeah, right, course you did. Last week had a almost full roll of 1.5mm T&E disappear from site. It's just not right.

Gone are the days when you could leave things on a job knowing the other lads would keep an eye on it. We could leave anything lying about without worry. Our plant cleaner was a regular visitor to the fitters and our shop with stuff he’d found.

I suppose everyone working for the same company made a difference.

Have a chat with site agent. Most of the jobs we go to where we know we are there a while van vault gets taken, most of the time not even bolted down but it stops the swiss rolls just 'borrowing' stuff.

Slightly off topic, but a few years ago was working on a big project where there was literally 100s of different trades mingling on site, one of the blokes i was working with had brought a brand new Bosch 24volt drill. Going for breakfast he left it near to where he was working not locking it in the site safes because "why would anyone nick it" his words. Well coming back afterwards before him his drill was still there. We decided ti would be funny to teach him to look after his tools, so removed it and put it safe.

He comes back about 10 minutes later realizes that hid drill isn't there and bursts into tears saying he was phoning the police. He wasn't impressed when he got it back but did lock it away every time he left it after that for some reason.

i`d have just have punched em out....job done.....of course they knew.....you ride it like that....you ride the flak n all....

Funny thing is if you are a tradesman and you go bankrupt they can take your assets but the funny thing is not your tools as this dates back to common law that says they cannot take your living off you

Was working in a nice area of Nottingham or so I thought, when someone brazenly took the drill out the back of the van. What made it more audacious was the fact I was napping in the front during my lunch hour!!! Amazingly they left the test gear sitting next to it! Harsh lesson learned and put a end to a dreadful week.

snooze ya loose.. the gear stick dropped out on us one morning on way to belfast, we got out , i was looking for cable ties to temp fix it , at front of van working away, by chance i needed another cable tie and looked and there was gypsies in fancy audi about to rob the van in busy morning time/daylight they hopped back in and drove off when they seen i had sleeves rolled up but they were up to fit in engine. yerah yeah
