Morning all. I Installed an electric pizza oven late last night and found that when it gets to a certain temperature it trips the RCD. its on a 63amp/30mA RCD and a 20 amp MCB. not sure what temp it gets to but it was on for about 5 mins then tripped. Question is could it be that i need to put a 100mA trip current RCD in or is it what I thought a there is a problem with the oven / heating element ??

Rating of the oven is 3.6Kw

Don't really want to go fork out for a less sensitive RCD when it wont do the job

I tried a kettle on a different circuit that the RCD supplies and that was all ok

Lol no I'm not a social worker but after this I might become one...

Trev the whole point of a diyer being a diyer is that he has never been on a building site and wont get all the 'funny' trade jokes that go back and forward.

You guys must see my point even just a little.

Yes , but a pizza oven is not much different from a domestic oven and the faults manifest in a similar way , pretty basic stuff really. He should of asked for help BEFORE he fitted it!

Telectrix I see your point also, they are being churned out daily where I live and work.

But the best advise is to not give any advice to anybody that we think it not competent enough to use it and simply tell them so.

So I shouldn't have told him to stop what he was doing? Is that what you're saying?

The bit where it says Electricians forums you mean? Strictly speaking your point doesn't really hold as much water as you might like.
If it was Electrician's rather than Electricians then it would imply A collection of forums belonging to electricians and as such would be intended for electricians only, whereas the fact that it is Electricians forums is a little bit of a grammatical nonsense but at best implies that it is a collection of forums where electricians are made available for discussions to be held with.

The Forums part is not quite right either as that is plural where by internet convention this is a single forum with multiple sub-forums.

As far as the OP goes if you can't make the simple link between a fault which appears when the element has been on for a bit and then disappears again when it has cooled down you clearly need to go back to primary school and learn the basic physics of materials, specifically what happens to metals as you heat them.
