Plasterboard Back boxes 1st fix or 2nd fix

We got an issue with a builder and plaster at the moment, and when the electrician should put the plasterboard back boxes in

For light switches, when used with splashback and where there might be more than 1 accessorie between studs I use fastfix, only ever one brand as I've found all others useless. Everything else I use metal boxes. Plastering isn't prevalent up here except with English settlers.locally painters just tape and fill. Can't even think of a local plasterer.

I only use Appleby, the lugs on the rest are sh1te.

Don't even get me started on those acoustic fire rated putty boxes......the springs, THE springs, THE SPRINGS!

Appleby all the way, the worst I ever used was knights something or other I like Appleby for the smooth slide I hate the ratcheting ones. And when I've only got room for a side fix and no metal box I shave off the grip part and screw in through the side of the lug. Never found any that come close.

I think you mean KNIGHTSBRIDGE. I thought that you would name Appleby.

True, but if you make sure the metal box is slightly forward from the joists, they can push the board against the back box, cut it away carefully and hey presto, you and the plasterer are happy!

I agree but the problem is I'm still relying on other so called trades.

They seem an expensive waste of plastic to me. Don't see anything wrong with dry lining boxes myself. With money tight, can't see how you can use anything else, house bashing. Just my opinion.

ideal world- if the builder fits noggins- I like to use metal boxes - so at-least you have some kind of fixed point to 1st fix to (no floating coils of cable that can easily be forgot and boarded over

Those stud boxes look terrible.

Bet they are expensive too. What happens when one of the lugs break? Will be a pig to sort out. Also I can guarantee that tackers will get confused and cut holes for all 3 boxes quite often.

What happens if one of the brass threads gets damage? Drill out the damaged insert with a 5mm drill and we can supply a M3.5 brass insert that self taps from the front.
