hey guys

just want to ask are those one day rewires worth it in terms of money...they seem pretty good to be honest.. yes i know ur a tool and the rest of it.

but like 550 for 1 bed

could be split like this

2 sparks 250 each

mate/labourer 50 quid

and the job can be done in one day. whats ur thoughts i dont mind working extra hours even 10 hours is fine

were expected to first fix new build houses in a day. Just me and an apprentice and i mean everything from drilling, boxing and wiring to ducting, finishing off. Its a joke we manage it but the work is average joe at best. It annoys me because you should be allocated the time to do a decent job. I hate doing it but some other sod will if i dont and i dread to think of how he does it. Thats why price work is awful and the prices are low. We get ÂŁ250 for a first fix to split between 2 of us and we have to pay the office monkeys. I usually get ÂŁ80-ÂŁ120 per first fix depending on size.

Rome wasn't built in a day and you cant put quantity over quality when your putting peoples lives at risk its a fare days pay for a fare days work ! no wander there is no work in your area if everything is done in a day but next week there will be more work after this weeks work has gone on fire so just be patient ! lol

do you think you will find a slave from the eastern side of Europe who will help you do this job in a day? I think you will end up trying to explain what you want him to do most of the day and that's what happens when you pay peanuts you get monkeys. Its just plain greed you expect 250 while you want a man to work like a dog for 50? Dream on

Dream on are you having a giraffe!!!!

Before I left these golden shores I was doing a refurb in Oxford Street and the workforce was mainly from Eastern shores. These guys would have bit your hand off for 50 quid a day, and these were sparks not mates in London!!!

Though I was just the consultant I was also asked to snag the work and apart from a few things the standard was acceptable if not spectacular. OK forget the 17th edition they had a supervisor who knew this, or so he said, but you only have to look on here and see some of the questions asked, there are few Brit sparks who know the 17th.

So for a grand a month for a 50 hour week, not only would you get your mate, but most likely a whole team in to do your rewire while you sat in the van.

This is where my trade has ended up. We are paying for all the Bankers, investment houses, insurance brokers Et Al to be in this wonderful European Club. Yes while the UK benefits from all this, which again is another debate there have had to be a few sacrifices, and we were the first ones up to the alter while the high priest was sharpening his knife.

A day to rewire a one bed flat, yes everything is possible, what you get after that day is debatable. Thank god I'm coming to an end in this game. You young guys, best of luck I really mean it.

here's a teaser for y'all - see if you can guess what's going on in this snap taken 21st may 2015:)

"Testing not mentioned" best laugh I have had in a wee while. For ÂŁ550 I would quite happily wire your shed with 2 double sockets on each wall and 2 lights. I might even run in the mains cable for good measure lol.
If your area of work is really London then you are going wrong somewhere if you cant achieve ÂŁ200-ÂŁ250 per day on day work. I lived in Canterbury, Kent for 13 years and I was achieving those sorts of figures until I left in 2006. I accept that prices have not really went up or even come down slightly but I am still in regular contact with my band of subby buddies that I generally looked after...and they did the same for me btw. they tell me that in the main prices are static.
If you are a proper sole trader then you should just look at getting a cards in job or even sub direct for a few firms as the hassle of being a sole trader is not worth it if you can't achieve rates well in excess of what a day rate subbing direct would be.
I have heard of the one day rewire teams....they have been going around since the year dot. Some of them really do a good job and work bloody hard and long hours.....BUT they do this for EXTRA ÂŁÂŁÂŁÂŁ not just for something near the normal day rate.

You are making someone ALOT of money!

Around 25 years ago me and an 18 year old apprentice were given 20 1bed OAP bungalows to rewire, the Council were happy for mini trunking/surface boxes but done nicely due to the mess and upheaval of chasing and making good, stressful for the old folk and most of the places were spotless. My boss at the time offered us the chance to do it on pricework, ÂŁ150 for me and ÂŁ75 for the lad per bungalow. So we went for it and did one properly in two days [mind you only 1ring, 1 lighting circuit, a cooker and combi boiler supply + bonding], we used MK boards back then which were proper quality in those days.
So back then we made great money and after a fortnight we were doing three a week despite old folk wanting to chat and drowning us in tea and cake.:D
But that was proper hard work and all cabling was neatly clipped in the lofts etc as it was all checked by a clerk of works , so any team whether two or three who do a full rewire in a day now have to be doing a hell of a long day, cutting corners or both.
