hi all

i've got a friend who i was explaining this forum to, and asked me to ask you all a question...

he has recently ventured into the self employed route having been with SE through his apprenticeship with them. he is now 21 and fully qualified.

he has been asked to quote a couple of CU changes to get them all up to date with the 17th.

he would just like to know what he should charge for this (taking his age and exp. into consideration)

cheers

mrjammin

Part p?

If he isn't registered with a scheme provider then it will be best for him to either register with one, or contact the labc for the area concerned to find out how much it will cost to notify these works. This will then have to be included to his price.

Ok mate, so how much excluding that charge?

how long will it take him/you to do it? multiply that by your hourly rate.
what are your materials going to cost and add a markup. add the two together and hey presto, your price.

if you need LABC approval, add the cost of this to your price.

Well ok..

It would depend on how many circuits?
If a dual RCD unit or RCBO or combination method was used?
Is it a simple insulated enclosure?
If main bonding is in place?
If a shutdown and access can be simply arranged, to allow for installation and commissioning.(testing).

Assuming there are no variables preventing the ability to crack on with it, if it is an 'off the shelf 17th edition board', then I would normally charge from £200 to install, plus the materials.

how many circuits? how accessible is the job? where in the country are you? do you have the knowledge to overcome any faults if (and they usually do) arise.
Anywhere from £200 upwards...............Cheers Howard

he is in the west london area. He has just told me that his uncle will test and certificate it as a favour. Bonding all ok, no limitations. Dual rcd board. He rekons he will give a day for each

Just a quick question when you guys do a CU change do you allways arrange for the supplier to install a cutout?
Been doing this for 15yrs now and gone from changing the tails directly into the meter at the start (maybe not such a good idea) To pulling the fuse and putting in a Henley block leaving the meter seals in place but obviously breaking the main fuse one.
