I did or used to use the Certsure certification. Had a few pc failures in the past, that caused headaches. But I also kept copies of these certs on my pc, so I had separate access to them.

To Andy, if its going to be royal pain in the arse, you could employ the service of some hard drive recovery service, albeit its bloody expensive.

You could put the hard drive into your new laptop and operate as normal? Failing that there will be a file on your old hard drive that you can copy across to your new hard drive. Failing that get Acronis and clone your old hard drive to your new hard drive and you will be operating as normal in no time. You would need a hard drive enlosure to connect to your laptop most likely by USB. It is perfectly possible to solve this problem by the above and there are other approaches. Acronis is available as a free trial and you can clone one system.
I must say it is very disingenous of the tech support, for your system, to ask for more money in this situation and sounds very much like extortion as you must pay to get your information. It puts me off of the idea of that software.

Tried that first, the old HDD does not physically fit. Copying the file across will be done with tech support's help, it's just knowing which one. Tried cloning it over and the programme would not launch.

I have my old HDD in a USB caddy and have tried booting from usb and just using it as an external HDD but either way the programme would not launch.

The cost of tech support is something I knew from the off when I bought the software. It is the way they operate. You pay a one off fee for the software which includes a years tech support and update download ability. From then on tech support yearly costs are optional to the customer. I've not paid any extra in three years so I'm ok with it really, and it will allow me to get any updates they might tweak the programme with as a result of the 18th edition.

No idea, a friend who works as IT support tried it. Stuff like that is beyond my capabilities. The clone worked but the programme would not launch for some reason.

I suspect the easycert software has some smart anti copying software in it

I moved shineforms from laptop to laptop earlier this year ..... reasonable System but needed their help ..

Andy ... so you've got the software "accessible" but can't access and use the data on it?

If this is the case surely its a no brainer to pay a small fee to get access to all the data again?

I kee thinking about moving from Shineforms but its the hassle of loading so many records again ........ and my very high rate of repeat business means the benefit of using the same software over and over is quite compeling ....

Just to update, Paid for a years care package and the problem was sorted in no time. Recovering the database was quite a simple affair after all, once you know how. Customer care team were very helpful and responsive.
ÂŁ30 for my time and ÂŁ970 for knowing where to hit it type of situation :D
