What on earth is the difference?

what are some typical examples of when you would use XPLE over PVC please

would it be in areas with a greater ambient temp for instance???

A boiler house or anywhere with a high ambient temperature.
Or you're trying to cram that bit extra down a cable.

I think you mean the ''Insulation'' not the sheath. As the sheath is PVC on both XLPE and PVC insulated SWA cables mechelec...

Isnt most SWA sold these days XLPE, our wholesalers only supplies XLPE, its been that way for quite a few years now, thats all we have been installing...

Whats the best way of telling difference in existing installation, such as filling out a cert etc? I spent a few times trying to work out if a cable is PVC or XPLE?

''XLPE'' insulation has a generally opaque appearance in it's colour, whereas ''PVC'' insulation has a more of a solid colour appearance!! Best way i can describe it anyway...lol!!

Thanks, yeah i know how you mean and i usually get it sorted in the end. Just curious in anyone had any super tips for telling (other than if you can read it off the sheath ofc)
