An electrician noticed that the clamp on the earth wire in my house wasn't right while he was fixing an unrelated fault. He called the power company because they have a legal duty to fix it. I noticed that the guys from the power company have used tape instead of a clamp and wondered if this is acceptable?

Thanks.

There could well be a clamp under the tape or as above it's been sweated on

Also....get that earthing conductor checked pronto! Earth fault current will be unsure where to go and won't know it is allowed to flow through it as it's splendid green/yellow markings have been painted over in emulsion.

Don't actually know but are supplied in some jointing kits. I don't reckon there is one under there it is too bulky on one side. Wouldn't mind a pic from a couple of other angles.

Could the bulk be where the braid has been folded over to prevent it from being pulled out?

Used them in jointing kits and they seem ok, but that doesn't look they've scraped the crap off to make a good connection, i'd certainly investigate o_O

Are they not a CP clip? as in "constant pressure"?
As mentioned,i think they were in part designed,to remove some of the risk/skill:rolleyes: from a proper sweating job.

But i have seen everything from jubilee clips to a child's tool bench vice,used...

Yes basically, CV joint is actually constant (angular) velocity which is a special kind of universal joint that is basically smooth regardless of the angle or turn, used in car driveshafts

...And as a little extra,the balls out of a CV joint,make devastating ammo,for a high-powered catapult :)
