I had my annual assessment last month and confronted the local assessor regarding a short course non qualified, non competent chancer that is doing the rounds in my area. This bloke carries the same badge as me on his van. Customers can't differentiate between me and him because of this.

I know what qualifications he has 17th and EAL domestic installer course. Although he likes to tell the lads down the pub hes fully qualified.. Up until a year ago he was doing general building work (badly I should add) he's a jack of all a master of non. Now when I seen the schemes logo plastered all over the van I seen my hoop. He's nothing but an incompetent chancer.

Anyway I confronted the assessor who let him in and he bare faced denied it at first saying he doesn't let "apprentices in! (the chancer is currently on the 2357 course, his first year!). Anyway he couldn't deny it when I mentioned the name. He then said oh he has the domestic installer course I've got to let him in. So I then said you called him an apprentice though and he said well essentially he is just that.

So I said how can you and the scheme justify an apprentice working in someones home as a QS. His response to that was I don't make the rules and be careful what you say because I've just got rid of a lad this week. Didn't end well to be honest.

I don't know why another scheme or a new comPany doesn't set up as JIB register only. Minimum quals 17th Edition, 2391, 2330/2360/2357, 2356 minimum quals. At least for years recordable site experiance pre application. Then all the real sparks join it and make a nationwide campaign about fully qualified lads. I'm sick of competing with chancers

Just to show how important good scheme membership must be, my annual visit is now 2 months past being due and not heard a single thing. The assessors must be so busy at the minute bringing all the Electrical Trainee on board or something.

Mate, my last "assessment" visit was 3 years ago. Each year they take my money, they send me a new badge and cert for my wall and i keep notifying jobs like a good boy. Maybe they don't want to come round here any more. The last time he was here I gave the guy such a hard time.
Suits me, I don't lose half a day's work while some idiot quizzes me about the earth fault path.

i take it your with the ECA

hmm if all these chancers and unskilled people are around ...... why do you all seem to leap forward when they come on here asking basic questions or stupid ones to help them out

To be fair, a lot of us ask them if they are qualified before giving out "advice", then tailor our posts accordingly. If we think they are out of their league, we tell them!
The trouble is, we then get accused by certain members (you know who you are) of "getting above ourselves" or being the (my favourite) "electrical police".

It would be a very dull and empty forum if we didnt.
Anyway , dumb questions from the clueless often spark interesting debates for the experienced boys to get stuck into.

I've always been against the NICEIC letting these people in on the domestic installer scheme that was one of the reasons I got approved status, but even that now has become a joke, they don't check you have the 2 years on site experience that your suppose to have only need to show 2391 and 17th. Everyone on here knows at least 2 people doing work and not signing it off and they never get caught or any questioned asked, I put a lot at the local authorities door as they get notification though to say jobs have been signed off and even when a extension gets build that they are involved in they want sheets never the part p notification I believe the NICEIC should start another scheme only allowing time served electricians be members then the customer knows they are getting an 'electrician'

i know the elecsa chap who came to see me looks on the forum...! he told me! he never registered as it would be a conflict of interest!
Do you remember the NICEIC guy that joined about a month ago and said he would answer any question?
He posted 2 items, we asked a load of questions and we never heard from him again!

You must be with NAPIT then , they make their money by under assessing, whilst the NICEIC makes money from over assessing.

DCLG have introduced risk based assessment as from last Wednesday.

But to keep the NICEIC happy they are going to allow Schemes to assess every year if they want to.

If we had a whip round do you think that DCLG (Eric Pickles) would do us a good deal?

Still the Schemes are Acredited by UKAS so they must ne legit.
