Discuss R2 test on a ring main where the conduit is the earth in the Periodic Inspection Reporting & Certification area at ElectriciansForums.net

A wander lead is the correct method of testing conduit containment systems, though far better using a high current ductor tester!! All conduit system fed accessories should have a flying lead from box to face plate. Don't know why anyone would think you can't carry out ELI tests on conduit systems without a separate CPC?? You just don't, or shouldn't need them!!

ive never come across or wired a conduit system using it as the earth. Always been in the spec that separate cpc needed. What is a high current ductor thingy then 54?

it's a bit like earth bond testing when doing PAT. high current, but a more accurate resistance measurement. the high current will show up any corroded joints in the conduit.

Shouldn't really be calling it a Ductor tester really, as Tony Say's a true ductor tester is generally a high current milli/micro ohm tester!! It's basically a high current ohm meter that tests the bonding/continuity of conduit/trunking containment systems on a wander lead basis. Most used to know these bit's of kit as the ''Clare Tester'' The early ones used to come in an integral wooden case...

Never seen a professionally produced electrical specification that calls for a separate CPC to be pulled into a metallic containment system, as it's a costly and totally pointless exercise!!!

well so far I have done two schools, a college, a hospital and a fire station in steel trunking and conduit and have pulled in same size pvc single cpc in every one. Labour only so I'm not worried about the cost lol.

I'll just point out again, a totally pointless and costly exercise!!

Thankfully, i've never seen such a specification in all the years i've been in the industry!!

Woe betide you if you forgot to put it on charge at the end of the day!
God help you if Jim the tester’s mate found you’d got dirt on the polished wooden case! The ones we had wouldn’t have looked out of place on mother’s sideboard.
