looking for a fault on a caravan where the rcd trips when a main earth is added. with no main earth the rcd want trip. the caravan has only got an earth path via bonding from the earth rod to the db and no main earth from the earth rod to the db.

zs is 66.4 on sockets 67 on lights and 66 on the shower.

the board has been tested and no faults found. as soon as u add 4mm or a 10mm main earth the rcd trips when say the cooker or shower are turned on.

I don't know but RCDs are designed to be sensitive, I think we can all agree on that. Having a wild animal like a meter between the RCD and circuits could be the fault? I am not sure if I am right, its just something that I am thinking of

Don't unplug the cooker, isolate the circuit completely. If you're sure all the wiring is ok then start with all circuits off and engage them one at a time until the RCD trips at least you'll know what circuit is causing the issue (assuming it's just one). Once you have identified a suspect circuit isolate them all again and just engage the suspect circuit (which should trip the RCD). Then you need to just find what on that circuit is causing the issue(s).

this should be the first steps to do thou

some of you are are so good that I am afraid to say my opinion in case I am wrong and had few drinks now.

I don't think RCDs are designed to be installed before the meter, the interference could be the problem .

No mate not heard of that one ?
As for getting shot down in flames , stuff em mate its a forum for debate and ideas !
The ones that give it large seem to me to be the least experienced , we are all learning on a daily basis and if not the case they are lying !

every days a school day. the rcd b4 the meter aint usual but would not trip because of interference, (with what). it is an ir fault. you say it tests out ok but i doubt it. do a thorough ir test, it.ll tell ya the answer.
