My gradfather was captured in one of those battles in North Africa and spent 3-4 years in a POW camp......still woke up swearing in German in the 70’s! Always remember war is started up by the same fat cats that control everything......

......I still don’t think that this country or Europe for that matter is far enough removed (2 generations at best at the moment)yet from the atrocities that happened in ww2,to actually get along.
I do feel that we are slowly moving the right direction though.....

Watched the film Hurricane last night. Was already aware that 303 squadron shot down more enemy planes in the Battle of Britain than any other. Nothing like a bit of motivation after seeing your families slaughtered. We still treated the Polish with contempt.
40 years of drip feeding right wing anti EU media has us looking back with false rose tinted specs at the horrible post war depression. I fell for it!
Let’s go back to 1970s power cuts, strikes and crap manufacturing.
I now realise that our current relationship with the EU is bloody good. Still best out come will be no deal and you watch the Tory elite grow even fatter at the expense of all the deceived workers who voted in support and who will now be losing their jobs!

Was already aware that 303 squadron shot down more enemy planes in the Battle of Britain than any other.

Polish squadrons accounted for around 10% (250) enemy shot down. whilst i applaud their contribution, David Stirling and his newly formed SAS accounted for around the same amount destroyed on the ground in North Africa (1941-42).

That's fair enough....but I wonder if they'd have even been in N Africa without those 250 downs in 1940. We were on the brink.

Interestingly, Alasdairp, you may know that when the Glencoe Visitor Centre was revamped about 20 years ago they appointed a new director...name of Campbell!
Easdale is beautiful...and home of the stone skimming championships iirc?
