Hi

Im starting a rewire tomorrow, its a 2 bed terrace, with only 3 sockets downstairs in the living room and 4 upstairs, 2 in each bedroom, maybe one on the landing.

anyway i was going to use rings as thats the norm for me but 3 sockets downstairs on a ring just seems silly, ill be putting the kitchen on a ring as it will have all appliances in there. plus upstairs 4/5 sockets again seems a waste of time/cable

is it bad practice to use radials where normally a spark would expect a ring?

whats your thoughts?

cheers

Never tried with 4mm radials, think there's something in the back of my mind saying you'll have a right job terminating the cables, but there you go.

I tend to do 99% of jobs as ring for kitchen and utility if seperate, then 20 amp radials for lounge and bedrooms. If only a 2 up 2 down then 1 radial is sufficient for both beds IMO. If larger I may run 2 radial for upstairs.

i have not had a problem terminating the 4mm although a mate of mine did have with 6mm on the spec they had from a council in the kitchens. imagine 3x 6mm in the fcu above the kitchen work surface. he was spitting after that one :D some wierd council specs out there

I have done many 4mm radials and never had a problem terminating.

Fair comments, may have to start trying out the 4mm radials in the future then.
