As some may (or may not) be aware, on 6th Jan 2014 five electricians and the Scheme operators gave evidence before the DCLG Commons Select Committee :

Player

The Committee clearly have serious concerns regarding :

1. Electrical scheme members using "short courses" as a means of entry to electrical Competent Persons Schemes

2. The Qualified Supervisor system.

3. The lack of any requirement for either the QS or the individuals actually carrying out electrical work to have any training, qualifications or experience to meet Scheme membership requirements.

4. The number of untrained, unqualified and inexperienced individuals being granted "grandfather rights" by the Scheme operators.

The "short-course" route to scheme entry may well soon cease to be an option for those not possessing sufficient relevant experience. However, the issue of grandfather rights may well affect a large number of current Scheme members who may find themselves unable to PROVE their competence independently of their Scheme operator.

Furthermore, those wishing to gain scheme entry before any potential "deadline" would do well to reconsider their proposed business plan .... just a thought before you spend your savings or get into debt ....

1) a total disregard for the safety of the public and a clear undermining of the trade

2) as it stands not fit for purpose...as in 1 QS for 200 odd installers/operators...eh?

3) as i see it a criminal act....its fraudulant...simple as that.

4) again..it comes down to the quick buck thing...pay your fees and your in the club

This is what really fks me off. It's not like you can't pay to do the proper qualifications when you're over the age of 21. Todays culture, in every walk of life seems to be 'i want it now - now, now now'

Mainly because people don't like hearing the truth.

Hope im wrong and this thread remains open.

Hope the facebook campaign going well DS.

Thanks Mark,

Never had a problem with any of the other threads. I know some threads can be touchy subjects, especially the ones regarding sponsors and other forums but I like to think of this as a democratic and not a dictatorial forum, most of the time ;-)

I can't see any reason to close it down.

I don't believe this issue of Chequebook Competence has even started yet. The public are not aware at all, that the government department DCLG have allowed their authorised Schemes to make up standards which are clearly not safe. No insurance company is going to pay up if something goes wrong, but our trade is going to carry the risk not the Schemes, their small print makes sure of that. You are liable for all the certification work you have carried out, certificates are a legal document, which you can be prosecuted for if they are wrong.

Guaranteed this thread gets closed and removed.
Geez, play the guilt card why don't you...suppose I'll have to leave it open now.

Historically there's a high probability it will get closed eventually because people will get emotional and it will probably end up in a slanging match and become a moderating liability like many of these type of threads do. Time will tell.

so is this the reason then that certain threads have just mystereriously disappeared in recent past?..

NAPIT and NIC etc, wont allow this to happen as it will dilute fee paying members too much. They will just bring in a new (watered down NVQ3 I reckon) which course providers (including NAPIT & NIC) can then charge for.
