Im currently employed full time 39hrs a week pluss OT, more and more people are asking me to do jobs for them like add extra sockets, periodic testing, install extractor fans ect... Now i would like to earn a little more money and have something to fall back on if i ever loose my main job. But i don't really know what to expect. and i cant see myself doing enough to make much on the set up costs, i'll have to buy a test meter get registered ect... how much does it roughly cost to get part p and insurance basicly ready to go?

Then on my initial assessment how can they assess me if i havent done any work yet? how does this work?

cheers

Basically all you need these scammers to do is notify Part Pee crap, so does it really matter what there websites are like?? If ''STRORMA'' can give that to you, at half the price of the other providers, jobs a good-un. Far better to get shot of all the parasitic providers, they are just an unnecessary evil that the industry can well do without!!

what tester do you use? out of the manufacturers ive used, metral, megga, robin and fluke, i prefer the megga's. Though i'm not saying theyre the best at what they do as i'm sure there's better out there for the price.

What insurance companies do you use? The cheapest quote I've came across soo far was 268 and that was with direct line i know theres going to be cheaper ones but i cant find them.

I've never heard of stroma as suggested earlier, and there fore i would be a bit concerned that joe public wouldn't either where as theyre more likley to have heard of nic, napit, elecsa
well a lot of the general public are blissfully ignorant..(in a nice kind of way) about scheme providers and who they are....all the customers care about is that the works done and an electrician did it in a businesslike manner i.e. in and out within a short time (so as not to invade their personal space) etc....this is how folk are duped into employing fake "electricians" who know more about the ale in the local than about sparkying...and thus recieving a crap job done, crap experience and a crap cert (if at all).......

What is unbelievable to me is your post. How can you not know what C&G2330 is for? Yes there are the 5 day wonder courses and yes there are some good people who have come through them but the difference between a 5 day wonder and a qualified spark is USUALLY like the difference between a first aider and a fully trained nurse..

just for information i took the C&G 2330 level 2 and 3 also 17th edition regs. after all that I took work experience worked for free for contractors as sparkys mate electrical improver and worked hard to get the experience (all while on the dole to try change my life). now ive spent (which ive borrowed from family)

ÂŁ500 Escort van (with T+T)
ÂŁ67 Public liability insurance
ÂŁ120 tester (ebay)
ÂŁ60 calibration
ÂŁ500 on power tools and transformers
ÂŁ150 on hand tools
ÂŁ444 elecsa membership (my assessment is on 23/12/11)
ÂŁ35 on trust mark

so for me to start working for myself its cost me less than ÂŁ2000 at the moment. i know my tools and van ect will need improving over time but ive got enough stuff to make a start and do simple easy jobs to build reputation. but first step is to get through the assessment with elecsa

Your assessment is on Christmas Eve?? And your worried about passing?? ...haha!!!!

yeah granted its was. it spent 3weeks fitting new seats and painting the sills and servicing. but now its done it looks tidy no rust. (but its not a flyer). you must admit. its a start
i was just having a rib mate (but not very tactful on my part i will agree)...anyway....you are on your way with that little lot.....best to really shop about for insurance.......its not like motor insurance is it where age is an issue......if you can prove competency then whats their problem? I dont even think they need to see certs.......reminds me of the time when there had just been all them floods and i wanted to renew the house insurance......rang around and got to one that was just so outragously priced that i just had to ask em why...."well its all them floods innit" they said..."I mlive on top of a hill" i says so it wont be as much for me will it?....they wouldn`t budge so i told em to F*&$ off and went someware else...een with em for 5 years i had......
