Ring up for a quote for a consumer unit change or some other notifiable work asking for their checkable reference number if they agree to the work.

I find the biggest failure of all trades is to know when it’s out their competency.
Did not notice any of the trade associations logos on his van.

As most of you can probably do to, I can do painting, decorating, carpentry, bit of plumbing, dry lining, partitioning, dot and dabbing, brickwork....i am an electrician though and might do the rest in my own home would only charge the public as a service for what i am properly experienced and qualified to do

Why would he put all that on his van, when he could be earning a fortune just doing electrics lol !!!

It's perfectly possible that his business offers all those services via specialist sub contractors or employees... Isn't that what most building companies do? One point of contact for customer, builder runs the job and deals with trades.
Or he's just a handyman that can do the basics of each. Either way I don't see a big problem with it.

I offer many trade services, some times i have the time to do tiling, plumbing etc but my main job is electrics. I do not fit gas boilers or gas hobs but after 30 years in the trade i can and do give clients a good job on all my services i quote for.
If i am stacked out i get other trades to help me fulfill that job.
Everyone can offer a service but if the client is not happy then no pay !

Happens every where now, I occasionally do work for a lad who started off doing rubbish removals and still does predominantly bit of gardening here and there, but he hands out flyers that have more trades then the yellow pages, subs it out for £20 hes a happy man sitting in the pub while we graft
