Hello just been to look at a shower install the consumer unit backs on to the wall that the shower is going on so the easiest option would be to fit an isolator below the consumer unit and drill straight through the wall.

Would this be ok to do or will i have to put the isolator outside the bathroom door?

For information its a single story flat no access above or below.
cheers.

Bottom line is you need to follow manufacturers instructions. This is an extract from a triton shower pdf I have

6 A 45 amp double pole isolating switch with a minimum contact gap of 3 mm in both poles must be incorporated in the circuit.

6.1 It must have a mechanical indicator showing when the switch is in the OFF position, and the wiring must be connected to the switch without the use of a plug or socket outlet.

6.2 The switch must be accessible and clearly identifiable, but out of reach of a person using a fixed bath or shower, except for the cord of a cord operated switch, and should be placed so that it is not possible to touch the switch body while standing in a bath or shower cubicle. It should be readily accessible to switch off after using the shower.

So do you think placing under the cu is ok in this case.

That would entirely depend on where the cu was located.

I dont see why it would have to be accessible to switch off after using the shower unless the manuf was saying they don't want the power left on!?

Also if I fitted a 50a dp switch would I have contravened 7671? As the manuf states 45?

I dont think they are well worded instructions at all. Are they recent instructions?

Bottom line is you need to follow manufacturers instructions.

I say not so. Only that you should take them into account.

For example I've seen silly stuff like "This appliance to be installed in accordance with the IEE Wiring Regulations by an NICEIC Registered Electrician."

Or, "This light fitting to be protected by an RCD", without any reference to the location.
