I think a call to Trading Standards would be in order. Real may or may not get to it in the next 12 months or so but local Trading Standards may move a bit quicker and perhaps a tip off to the local press about how to chose a solar installer that doesn't rip you off.

They are using the NICEIC and MCS logos on the yellow sheet.

There are 3 companies registered with NICEIC called Rolec but none of them has a 01924 telephone number. Are they a 'sister' company? I would report them to NICEIC for misuse of their logo.

I presume they would be using the Rolec company that is MCS registered to actually do the install.

Rolec Electrical Contractors
Manley House,
94 High Street,
Epworth,
Doncaster,
Yorkshire,
DN9 1JS

NIC2524

They also have the same lower case 'o' in their name on the website - RoLEC - RoLEC Electrical Contractors

In which case they should be reported to NICEIC, MCS and REAL for using a sales company that is operating outside the code of practice.

It's worse that that - looks like it's a finance deal - they'll pay ÂŁ179.45 for 120 months = ÂŁ21,534.00

These guys should be reported to Trading Standards straight away..

Ah, yeah! How bad is that! The upload is the first contract, now it's 9500 for 3.5 and because there on low income and benefits the finance was kicked back, opt 2 is the equity release which is approved!

For info when you go to Trading Standards:

Looking through their websites I recon you could get RoLEC and or Solarworld Wide for 'passing off' as well, as they use the logo of and link to SolarWorld UK ? photovoltaics, solar modules/panels (SolarWorld Solarworld-uk.co.uk)

using freewebmail accounts also raises queiries (gmx.com)

RoLEC:

The Rolec website also breaks the rules on it's registration

Looking at the 'contract' were they also offereing the 360 rewards scheme...... Wasn't that the one where you'd (never) get your money back

I wondered if you would be interested in attending a meeting with some reputable Leeds & West Yorkshire based solar installation companies to discuss the potential to set up a joint task force to tackle the scurge of miss selling that we believe is occurring on a significant scale across West Yorkshire by a small number of disreputable marketing front companies who're used to prevent the REAL assurance scheme or MCS from being able to easily track these companies or intervene.

It seems from reports we're getting that these companies are often targeted at elderly or vulnerable customers, and have even started offering debt finance or equity release finance at high interest rates.

As a reputable solar company, we have had contact with several customers of such companies both before and after they have had an installation carried out, and we're hugely concerned about the high pressure sales tactics, ridiculous prices being charged and the size of the on the day discounts being offered, as well as the pay back calculations being used on the day to make the payback seem to be viable, which bear no relation to reality. We're also in contact with several other local solar companies who have had similar contacts from customers of such companies with similar concerns.

When we've contacted the REAL assurance scheme on previous occasions about this we've been told their hands are tied, and they can only investigate their own members, not marketing companies who're not members, but have to then use REAL and MCS certified companies for the installations. REAL and MCS can take action against those MCS certified installation companies, but only if they can be directly linked to the sales and marketing companies who're doing the initial miss selling, but they lack the resources to actually investigate and make the links between the 2 sides of these businesses (who are often owned by the same person).

I believe that a joint task force between the solar industry and trading standards in West Yorkshire could fairly swiftly pull together dossiers of information on the relatively small number of companies who're involved in these miss selling scams (which to my mind would actually class as fraud in many cases), enabling either trading standards or REAL / MCS to take action against those companies we can collect sufficient information about, and use these as examples to be used in warning letters to be sent to other such companies suspected of involvement in dodgy sales tactics, but where sufficient evidence hasn't been collected to allow actual enforcement action to take place.

We would be willing to facilitate an initial meeting either at our offices, or yours with invited representatives from reputable solar companies who've expressed a willingness to be involved in such an effort, to discuss this, and provide you with some examples of the types of activities we're talking about, and contact details for individuals who we know have been targeted in this way.

Could you please let me know if this is something you'd be willing to consider?

email I've just sent to west yorks trading standards

Good email Gavin. Let us know what kind of response you get.

ill upload the rest of the contract later to read - its interesting. @Morgan - yes the SAP is a joke - Plus its a twin array!

Update: Spoke to the customer today and he spoke to the firm to cancel the agreement - they knew he was getting other quotes as they offered to match what ever quote he got! - anyhow - he told them he wanted to cancel and she said "is it because of the other firms cheaper quote?" he said "no its because ive taken advice and solar isnt the right thing for me" she said "blah blah blah well we will pass it to our legal team and they will be in-touch" GOOD GOD! --- holes the lot of them. Legal team "my arse" i told the customer im on his side and we will fight them together :) because it wont be much of a contest.

Very interesting and upsetting to see such practices occurring. The fact that some of the countries leading firms do it shows us everything....PPI miss selling from our trusted banks, insurance over pricing from loyal customers etc etc !

Whilst your doing your bit they probably have been miss-sold PPI....

I just did a spot of research on this address. Apparently 1-3 High Street, Normanton is registered as "Chaplins Cafe". I kid you not!

This company must have rented the offices above.[ElectriciansForums.net] Solarworld Wide Ltd Normanton

I might pop over there in the next few days to see what's going on.
