Your over thinking it, just plain speaker cable, one to each speaker back to the stereo point, straight forward.

Insurance claims? it is signal cabling, it cannot catch fire, why don't you pop into your local Maplins and ask the guys in there what cable they recommend for the system you are wiring?

i know that but its only what i have read

"The main purpose of NEC is to prevent hazards to human health and safety from wiring, and these fall primarily in a few categories: electrical shock, tendency to start or perpetuate a fire, and production of toxic fumes when exposed to fire. To classify the types of cables suitable for reducing these risks in various applications, the NEC provides a system of ratings of cables. An example would be CL3, or "Class 3," which many people recognize as an "in-wall" rating because of the labeling on the spools of speaker wire found at home improvement stores. But there are many more ratings, and almost all of them also are "in-wall" ratings for NEC purposes, as we'll see."

"
any old speaker wire. If you're going to be running speaker wire in-wall, you'll need to select a type that is UL-rated and labeled either CL2 or CL3 (Class 2 or Class 3, respectively). These designations ensure that the wire has been tested extensively for current-based heat generation, flammability, and susceptibility to damage, and that Underwriters Laboratories has given it their stamp of approval for safe consumer use and in-wall installation. I think we can all agree that the last thing anybody wants to deal with is a fire happening inside your walls. We recommend Monster XP® CI Compact Speaker Cable. On the other hand, if your audio setup doesn't require in-wall wire runs, any type of speaker wire will work, provided that you're satisfied with its quality. One great all-around speaker wire to try is Monster XP® Speaker Wire by Monster Cable®."

mdj is right to be honest, there will be less than 10v on the speaker cable.

these sites that claim you need a certain class cable are snake-oil salesman.

it wont really make any difference

monster are well known for ripping people off.

they were selling a 1k hdmi lead XD

normal speaker cable should be fine, it will be classed as seperated extra low voltage so doesnt need protection either (just a L+N)

I'll let you all in to a little trade secret from the entertainment industry, but promise you don't tell anyone!

In nearly all theatres, cinemas, studios etc the super special speaker cable is either singles in trunking or T&E

And it sounds just as good as any of those class 5000 oxygen free cables!

I could easily see the sense in that. The only difference between cheap and expensive wire designated as 'speaker wire' is the thickness. (and often a bit thicker insulation to make it feel more substantial/expensive).

What do you mean by thickness? A 2.5mm wire will always be 2.5mm whatever the price.

We use a thick rubber jacketed flexible cable for touring/temporary work, but even that is no more than a black rubber flex but with different coloured cores

We use BS7671 not NFPA NEC over here.

Just to add. For my home I used 6mm tri-rated singles as they were free from where I worked.
