The NIC created teh VI Report..... the version been used here is from Easy Cert with an elecsa logo attached...!

i use them when potential buyers what a electrical report for buying a house..! just to assertain if there is any "Visual" or "Obvious" dangers...!

bit like a RICS survey for valuation !! ALL VISUAL.......!! with recommendations to get a FULL report done etc..

ÂŁ50 quid for 20mins work!

and also used between tennancy's to check for damage and BOND deducting tactics!! lol

A Visual Condition report would probably be useful for the change of occupancy between Periodics, or just a check between Periodics. Other than that I don't think its much use other than as a bit of a bluff to get work - the job must have been done thoroughly as I have a certificate type of thing.

Have never seen one of these "Visual reports" before, cant find them on the Elecsa shop either
The print at the top of the certificate looks dubious to me. Probably scanned a form then *******ised it for their own use.

The most obvious mistake is this guy thinks he knows how to fill a report sheet in,however maybe there needs to be an extra column in the results so he can tick DK you know the thing, were you either put a value or NA if it doesnt apply well maybe he needs DK in a column (DK=don,t know)

Once the landlords get their sticky fingers on these, bang goes the proper inspection regimes

No doubt "Visual thingies" will end up rivaling pat testing for stckability and price

The good old Niceic strike again, what a shambles of an organisation they have become

well some members of our family (our heather n richard) are just contemplating buying a house but have asked me to do a report on it first for them...before they commit.......this i have said i would be happy to do.....but i would be doing some tests and getting some values to confirm what i cant see.......no a `visual` doesn`t cut it for me....waste of time.....

apart fom the many other things
What made me giggle was the URGENT remedial work recomended for items 1 and 4...
1 no perodic inspection availble..
4 its wired to the 16th edition... thats like super UREGENT..
but hey less urgent and a recomedation is that the socket in the kitchen is unearthed.. Priceless

These were offered a while ago by all the elctricity suppliers in our area, free visual inspection, I don't think I saw one without a ÂŁ500 quote for a new consumer unit. To be quite honest, work was so quiet a few weeks ago I was toying with the idea of offering these for free along with energy efficiency surveys to generate a bit of work. Agreed though, they are not worth anyone paying for unless they are really worried and unable to see the cracked socket in the kitchen for themselves.

Des this is where the NICEIC should earn their corn and either outlaw this or intergrate it. Taffy easy cert are either misguided or they know something we dont.

Now to be honest I think the business (letting agents) are running this and trying to drive it through ans easycert appears to be going along with it ie they are making it to loo like a authorised BS7671 document when it plainly aint but again it will take a court of law to either say this is not legal or infact there is no problem with it as long as you remove the "complies withBS7671" part. Although a lot of purists out there will say its an EICR or nothing yet a letting agent will say we have a new tenant in that property every 6-12 months so here is my thinking on this the letting agent gets an EICR done and then gets one every 5 years but at the same time if there is a change of occupancy then there could be a VCR that include testing a couple of circuit to confirm they are the same on the orignal EICR so in other words a baby EICR but only on the condition that a full EICR is done 5 years apart but no longer than 6 where if this is the case the letting agent cannot rent out the property.

Plus the letting agent /landlord could absorb the costs over a 5-6 year period knowing if the tenant changes then its a ÂŁ50 VCR charge because remember it is the tenant who will pay for this. Also NICEIC could get on board and at a stroke this would stop "drive by" EICRs as a VCR would highlight any descrepensies.

So I have said my bit comments please good or bad

it does comply as its a VISUAL report ONLY based on facts in 7671

and Easy Cert are running it as the NIC produced the Original form!!

The Visual Inspection is here to stay.

The IET, Elecsa, Napit and NICEIC need to have a clearly worded document produced, published and on their websites clearly stating what its purpose is for and clearly that its NOT an EICR, nor should it be considered an alternative to one either.

Well that answers everything we have a so called Bonafidie certificate that is not even mention in BS7671 and as you say it would be nice for them to have rolled it out but then again I have just got the EICR documentation pads 4 months after the start date and 2 months before NICEIC have told their members they can use them.

What a Bl**dy mess no wonder we look like fools when we are saying no such thing as a visual its EICR or nothing and these registration companies are printing / rolling them out so it would be nice if they laid some ground rules down and we are not stupid some of them are lurking on this site and if they are not then they should be to get some feedback from the people who actually do their job
