Hi there. Simple question so appologies.

I'm adding an extra double soket in a bedroom as the client whats a double soket on either side of their bed.

I was just going to spur it off the existing socket as the run is only short but then realised that the CU is the old rewireable type and no RCD's.

Is my only option other than moving the ring circuit over to a new RCD CU to fit an RCD FCU before the new socket that I'm fitting.

This does bump the price up.

Are there any other options I've missed?

yes you can put before rcd fcu befor the new socket which is cheaper than changing ring over, or just add it but tell her no certs.. sure people will say oooo no

I am afraid I will say oh no. In my opinion either do a job right or do not do it at all. If we all start doing jobs like that then we might as well bin the regs and just do as we feel.

aye but there was no problem adding before, so why now, overkill britian
I'm not too keen on the principle, but I can see your point - why should the socket on one side of the bed need an rcd when the one on the other side doesn't?
Maybe go for a separate rcd next to the cu protecting the whole circuit, or at the risk of getting Matt Alright BBC Rogue Traders on your case, suggest a cu change.

How about chasing out more than 50mm or have the cable clipped direct so no rcd is needed? 50mm with capping sounds good to me if its possible.

Let's put the regs and part p to one side. It's safety of the user that matters.

No to all. Also would require a means of isolation for PIV - pulling a fuse wouldn't be acceptable. I don't mean to seem disrespectful, but this...
