To minimally comply with BS7671, yes it would be sufficient.
However, it might be as cost effective to change an MCB for an RCBO.
Thereby protecting all cables and sockets on the circuit.

If the cable going to it is surface mounted, in steel conduit or deeper than 50mm, otherwise that would need to be protected as well.
From a cosmetic aspect I would try to keep the sockets on either side of the bed the same.

I think your options are:
Replace the CU and provide RCD protection where required.
Install an RCD socket, spurred off the socket on the other side of the bed. Obviously running the cable so it doesn't require RCD protection.
Change the existing bedside socket for an RCD FCU and spur both sockets off of this, thus protecting the new cable.
Install an RCD next to the CU, and shift the RFC over to this, thus protecting all sockets and cables on the circuit. Use some 6mm² T&E from the CU to the RCD.
As you say spur directly from the CU, use an RCD FCU just for this socket.
Wait untill July and don't install any RCD protection at all.

i loved reading all this my god! who ever is selling rcd's must be sipping champagne in the bahamas! wish i put some monney into there shares.anyways only minnor works and unless her hubby got chains and toys to screw into the walls under her bed just tell her the options including no cerificate or walk away and ille do it.
if electricians won't touch work like this some one else will and do it less safe, i can imagine your customers face when you tell them even though the whole house has been fine for years and is safe,by putting in one extra socket will mean all these safety requirements need doing and at extra cost.
as said her brother inlaw will be straight down b and q spend less than a tenner on parts tell everyone you were trying to rip people off .

No to all. Also would require a means of isolation for PIV - pulling a fuse wouldn't be acceptable. I don't mean to seem disrespectful, but this...
