4th option is chase deeper than 50mm. If this is a bedroom I assume he will go under the floor from one to another so only a small amount to chase out, no rcd needed.

I'm not picking a fight here lads but I'm going by the regs (although in my previous post I said disregard them).

OSG page 22. Cables installed on the surface do not require rcd protection.

Rcd's may be omitted for:- ......... or be a depth of 50mm in a wall or partition without metal parts.

Otherwise if I was the op I would have a stand alone rcd for the ring in question.

Agreed the cables might not require RCD protection.
However the socket will, unless it is not for general use by ordinary persons.

I agree with you spin, thought the OP was asking about the curcuit hence my answer.

So the conclusion of this is run the cable so it does not need rcd protection and fit a rcd socket, simplesssss.

Ps, don't call me Shirley. It's not the weekend yet :).

Ah but can we be sure that she won't allow an untrained person to use the socket without supervision?

Doesn't the responsibility then pass to the home owner.

Its all rather daft. Tell her she needs a new CU and she'll get her son to buy one for ÂŁ59.99 from xxxxxxx and he'll install it himself - problem resolved.

You can't use the 'skilled or instructed persons' defence for domestic.
I reckon you're basically looking at putting an rcd in or not doing it properly.
