About to start a contract monday for fitted kitchens and ive heard the guys who are doing the sparky work at the moment just put sockets inside cuboards or behind the appliances. Now ive always put a spur above and a flex outlet plate below for easy local isolation.
The difference between the two regarding time is a hell of alot and ive got a feeling im going to get the kitchen fitter up my arse.
Ive done my 17th a while back but if i remember i'm sure you should always put a spur above and outlet below and putting a socket inside a kitchen unit or behind the appliance is not to regs?
cheers

The Part P? The building regs you mean? I personally don't see that fixing a socket to a fixed unit that can only be removed by the use of tools is a problem. I would love to know where and who have said this can't be done!

solution...... put the bloody appliances outside, IP rated double pole sockets. more room in the kitchen. woman washes in the back yard just like my gran used to.

It does say where practable , i must admit i always try and attach to the main wall cased or othe wise kitchens can be a pain , i will always put an isolator above the work top as enginneer 54 has said pain trying to get an appliance out , and when you look at the statistics for appliances catching fire its scary 4 in our area in the past 6 months , and who the hell is going to try and switch the supply off if the things on fire by pulling it out one quick switch simple:cool:

Another thought! If we install all kitchen appliances in the living room then they would not come under special locations and simply plug 'urm all in lol!
can't have that. her inddors doing the washing in the living room when top gear's on the telly. naaaah.

Reg 5.2.2. of the electricians guide to the building regs locations of accessories in kitchens general guidance wiring accessories socket outlets etc should preferably mounted to the fabric of the building and not the kitchen furniture
