Surface mounted cooker circuit

Hi all,

I have been asked to install a new cooker circuit but the customer wants everything to be surface mounted to keep costs down. Do you know of any cooker connection units that are suitable for surface mounting e.g. have an appropriate back box? Cables will also be surface mounted using plastic conduit?

Most of them, so long as the back box is deep enough.

Edit:-

40mm minimum to give yourself some wiggle room with the conductors.

Not sure about conduit connections... if you're talking conduit you'll probably have to carefully cut holes in the patress box. If you're actually meaning trunking, then the entry points will be plenty big enough. Some boxes even include cable clamps.

To avoid breaking the plastic boxes, cut the entry points with a junior hacksaw first, then break them out and clean up the edges with a file to prevent damage to the cable.

And as it's a new circuit, it goes without saying it will need properly testing, an EIC and a building control notification. Depending on the size of the load, you may also want to consider the loading etc. in the consumer unit.

most wholesalers sell pvc boxes that have a pop out bit that takes a collar for the trunking so it fits nice and neat

This sounds like an ideal option, I will have a look at my local branch.

Apparently to do that I have to be able to show I am currently on a course which im not. TBH im happy to be called whatever (within reason lol) as long as im able to use the site and knowledge of those wiser which comes in very useful!

What size cable is he using ? Must be a big loading on this cooker !!

LOL I meant trunking and not conduit and I will be using 6mm T&E. IS the self addesive trunking really that bad??????? If so how do you guys attache it, a few screws though the trunking?
