Hello all,

Hopefully just a quick question really, i need to quote to install some cable to go around the outside edge of a large rounded driveway, it will be sunk into the ground but at what depth?

Ive looked online but see different depths quote, some 450mm some 600mm and some completely different.

Just want to make sure be any work starts.

Thanks,

The metro is amazing. The big Buddha was my favourite but the whole place is an eye opener. Don't know if I could live there mind, Chinese don't sleep much from what I saw!

Your joking aren't you, the Chinese don't sleep!!!! They will sleep anywhere, anytime, on anything. Any excuse to close there eyes and they are away in 40 winks land!!! But HK itself doesn't sleep!! lol!!

Did you notice something unusual about the metro, while standing on the platform?? something different from any other metro system you have seen elsewhere in the world!! Don't be ashamed if you didn't ...very few ever do notice!!!

Not as sunny as it it here at the moment, it's just gone 8 am and it's 29c already, it's the humidity that's the killer over here!!! ...haha!!!

I supose you'll just have to sit outside on some beach bar sipping cold lager because it's too hot to do anything else???

Far too hot for me, I've seen work in Norway mentioned, now were talking.

At the moment i go out and about exploring the city. You have to remember all Cities here have multi million populations, ...so there Dammed Big!!! And Yes, Zhuhai is a coastal city just off Macao/HK so it does have a beach, and a pretty good one at that!!!

It was a year ago so can't really remember except how clean it was. Saw s local get fined for opening a bottle of water on the tube, he didn't even litter.

The big difference is, ...the metro trains are catenary fed/supplied, unlike all the other metro's which are 3rd rail supplied...

Very, very, few actually notice, even standing on the platforms where the catenary supply can be clearly seen, it never seems to register. But if later asked, most will swear blind that they saw a 3rd rail from the platform. ..lol!!!

Thanks for all the replies guys, even if it did get heated between a few of you... lol

I think i will go with 600mm to be on the safe side, whats 150mm between me and a shovel anyway!

At this depth would you say its still nessisary to install blockwork above the cable? I will obviously install the cable tape but wondered if the blocks are still a requirement at this depth?

thanks again

Never was explained to us, so not too sure mate, The tunnels in the HK metro are pretty weepy and leaky water wise, in some sections and can in places get quite deep very quickly before the sumps kick in . So maybe the 3rd rail wasn't a good idea in those sections of tunnel. The humidity and temperatures in the tunnels can get pretty high too. When i went into the tunnels on work inspections, i literary wore just shorts, hard hat, boot's or wellies!!! I would walk out a couple of hours later, ...literary running rivers in perspiration!! ...lol!!

As i originally stated, as the cable is going to be run tight against a driveway edge, i'd be happy with 450mm with a protective tile and marker tape. However, if installed in a PVC duct at 450mm I wouldn't be too concerned about the provision of protection tiles. Obviously the marker tape will still need to be provided...
