How deep should an SWA cable be buried in the ground to officially comply with regs?

450mm springs to mind but thats without looking and 650mm if the ground is to be double dug I stand to be corrected

522.8.10 page 101 does not give a depth just states sufficient depth to avoid being damaged by any reasonably forseeable disturbance to the ground.

Just had a look at the red bible, all i can see is installation method D, 0.8m deep
Is that true, just interested myself as putting power out to my garage at some point.

acat thats what i thought, but had it asked to me today and weren't positive of the answer, so thought i would ask you lot

Have a look in the guidance note 1 selection and erection it goes into detail I believe.

just found something in the wiring regs page 269 note 1... says 700 mm based on other values given. So dig 700mm, add 150mm sifted sand, lay cable (snake it), add 150mm sifted sand. tamp it, lay caution tape and back fill. job done!

I would say at least a 1 and half spade depth down so if anyone trys to dig there, the wont hit it with spade and possibly chop through it.

Any cable should be buried at least 600 mm according to the Regs. Mechanical protection should be included. In arable land the depth is 1 m. Reg. 705.522 and 522.8.10. I am doing my 17th Exam next week, and that is one of the questions.
