Hahaha , tazz and big dave, you sound like the type of people that are bringing the industry down mate. I could be on here all night ranting And I know that 90% of the decent sparks out there would agree with me

We will leave it at a difference of opinion then chief. Good luck to you man. Hope you sort it all out and manage to find a bit of stability.

I'm hearing from other people I know that 130 a day is very common now, 8-5, including travel fare coming out of that then tax. You think that's acceptable with the knowledge we are meant to gain over the years. Better of In b and q if that's the way it's going

Find this hard to believe.....your in one the best areas in the UK for work...Essex has more nursing homes, schools and business than any other county, yet your moaning.????.....You try moving up North...some guys there a really finding it hard.

If you don't like the rates of pay offered by employers in your area why not take the jump and become self employed? That way you can decide how much your 8 hour day is worth.

Well do something about it, charge more, complain, get on the street, or you could just waffle and complain to ya mates and watch TV, and hopefully someone will knock on ya door one day with that great job offer..maybe.....

Yes I agree with you, I am 20 minutes away from London and am very lucky to be so close to London and in essex and I feel absolutely gutted for anyone who is in areas that struggle for work, maybe I am coming across as very ungrateful but my point I am trying to get across is that as electricians we are not getting what we deserve. The big companies in London tried de skill ing metal munching down to 8 quid an hour. Well I challenge any one who is not a qualified electrician to go over a big project in Carnary wharf or in the city and install the containment systems to scale from the drawing, it aint no idiots job and I don't think the good labour gets the credit they deserve

Oh dear, sorry Tanna...this is the JIB world of possible future national licence, pay heed and take in, poor pay, little respect, you get what you wish for.

You're dead right mate but the choice is pretty simple, get out of the trade, put up with the rates and conditions or self employment at your own rate.

I am self employed Trevor, the reason being that over 4 years ago I realised there was no benefit what so ever of being employed by a company , all them benefits all the old skool fought for years ago have been stripped away by people running the show who aint spent their time in the game. I am a NICEIC approved contractor and now have to start pumping more money into things like chas health and saftey and constructionline to get on tender lists. Like I said I have not done bad out of sparking but I have had to work my arse of for it, I'm 30 years old and feel 50, yet again I don't think yous are getting the point, electrcians are under payed, simple as that

I do get the point you're making Tanna, like you I've grafted for everything we've got but apart from all employed sparks going on strike for better rates (which will never happen) I don't know what the answer is

Good credits comes with good work, and getting the contracts...the electrical contractors trust me, and give me their work....it takes years of trust and good projects to get anywhere.

I agree with what you are saying tazz, hard work should pay of, but when I'm hearing of electrcians having to travel from Birmingham to London because the pay is not enougth in them parts of the country and they are working for bottom rate and long hours I thinks it wrong. The work is out there again, but the big boys are still keeping to the recession rates and I just can't see it changing due to all the new systems coming into play, high level electrak and plug an play systems , intelligent lighting systems installed in evrey office block now, which To become an engineer is taking another paycut and paying out for another college course costing more time and money, what chance has the ordinary man got in the future. My very first day at college 15 years ago my tutor told us we here now entering the elite of the building industry. Sadly that is no more

Hahaha, to be honest today was ok, just had enougth, Sparks where earning the same if not more in the 80s and 90s. Just think we are skilled tradesman, there are a lot of chancers out there as well, that are having the **** taken out of us now, can anyone see it getting any better??

That's because like too many other Electricians here, you sat back and did nothing while you watched these parasitic organisations ride in and de-skill your industry while other parasites are now dictating what an electrician is worth, ...based on that deskilling!!

But alas to you, it seems like everyones elses fault, nothing to do with YOU!! ...Right??

When you take into account the overheads, courses, paperwork and responsibility, I have to agree.
