hi, i have just done my am2, which is the new version. i was never given a lot of information before hand so i will list done the equipment you have to install, this might help some people who dont know what to expect or never had any decent information given, like my self.

s plan heating system with solar sustainable energy element. basically a solar panel which controls a cylinder and has a sensor which is supposed to be on roof. 2 port valves, sensors for solar panels and boiler allready have pre wired flexes. the joint box is like a push in connector and u use feral crimps to terminate. all the information is the just follow the drawing. really quite easy.

3 phase motor - just supply in from board to pre wired dol starter and take the suplly out to the motor from starter in sy flex. so dont worry about control circuit because its allready there.

cat 5 - just one cat 5 from one out let and the other end goes to another outlet.

smoke alarm - fp from board to unswitched fuse spur then out on to tray ( use fp clips not cable ties) and to a carbon monoxide detector. thats it for that.

lighting - 2 way and intermediate with 1 light only in pvc/pvc.

ring - few sockets with one socket spuring of to another socket.

main bond to incoming gas and water.

6mm swa to a isolator which then feeds a 3 phase commando socket.

and thats it really.

they chuck in different size breakers in the box so that u have to think on which breaker to use, allthough u get give a db chart.

i hope this might help people who are about to take the new am2, so that you know what to expect.:)

On the ring main, which socket do you spur off from? I found the Diagram to be a little confusing
Is it the first socket that sits in the trunking?
Does anyone have a copy of the diagrams and job specs they provide?

Thanks for that Banjo,

There is only one double socket and a spur unit in the Dado trunking isnt there?
The other two sockets are off the plastic pipe?
So I would spur from the only socket that sits in the trunking?

Yeah that's it Tony,
Remember to set overload on contactor,
Read s plan diagram carefully,
Also make sure you know how to wire lighting circuit in T+E feeding the switch first using 2-way intermediate switching.

Hi, Did mine a month or so back. Just a few things to look out for. They have to give you a choice of cable, so if it specifies 1.5mm2 don't go installing 1.0mm2.
They give you what is probably the worlds best wiring diagram for the S plan, so as long as your ok with reading diagrams, don't worry, just do one component at a time.

Umm, testing is the hardest part - when I asked, you have to get 100%, so very easy to fail here. Make sure you do R1+Rn test on the ring.
When your megging, there was an RCBO present, which ment I had to do that seperatly. I only just remembered in time, but make sure you test between the ring, and the other phase conductors (not just the ring conductors), Easy to forget under the pressure.

They give you really good diagrams so just make sure you check every detail. They seem to be very hot on the spec, so make sure its as its written. I noticed a lad in the bay next to me put his RCBO on the wrong phase - small mistake really, however fail.

hope this helps

Hi, I’m a little confused with the 3 compartment Trunkin. I’ve never wired anything using it before. Do I run the power and lighting in the middle compartment? Do I run the FP200 cable in the same compartment or do I use the top compartment?
Which compartments do I use to run different cables?

Is there room to run cables behind the Spur unit back box or is it flush with the trunkin?
Cheers Tony
