This thread is specifically made for the members on here that are only here to shoot down new guys, hurl snide abuse from afar , and basically dont want any new electricians in the world cos they think they are god gift.

Too many times have we seen new members abused and disheartened by these guys .

So heres a specific thread for you all to have a good moan .

Far from it, ...we want to see newly qualified electricians coming into the industry. Fully trained and experienced electricians that can move around within the industry as a whole. What we don't want to see is under trained inexperienced 17 day/electrical trainee's wanna-be electricians, being labelled as competent by cash hungry Scam Providers.

Now if you can see any good coming from this present situation, please enlighten us all??

I don't think i have shot any new member down, without good reason. Most of the time, i read the post and move on!! I do on occasion make it known that they are not fully trained/qualified and certainly not competent to go into peoples homes to undertake electrical work. I'll make no apologies here for that.

You can label me with whatever title you wish, it will make not a jot of difference to my position on fast track training that offers this industry absolutely nothing but irreversible damage!!!

so its the training providers and 'competent person schemes fault ', not the learner /member

There is a vast difference between informing someone of how underqualified they are to complete a certain task and abusing them though.

I totally agree with what you say Eng, however if I am ever to engage in a conversation with a Electrical Trainee who is in over his head, I will still always try to be as constructive as possible in any reply. We all have to start somewhere but what makes a good spark is knowing your limits, even if getting to know your limits comes from a little gentle persuasion from experienced sparks :D

If you think a poster is out of order, report it, if these posts go unreported the posters will never get reprimanded and will never change their way.
The report post button is there for a reason, to use it when necessary.

Good point, well made Mark. I wonder if under reporting is due to the fact that the 'Report Post button' doesn't have a legend identifying it and many casual forum users are unaware of it's existence.

The sparks that irritate me on this forum are the ones who think they are above every trade and resfuse to admit they are wrong.

EG getting a kitchen plan and putting wire's right where a unit fixing is and then screamin "BUT IT'S A SAFE ZONE". It's obviosly not if you knew fixing's were going there!

As Polo said there are guys who come on to the forum to get others to do their homework for them for example a guy who is doing an I&T course but does not have a GN3 but I'll bet he has a ÂŁ300 andriod phone so am I being sarcastic not a bit when I served my time some of my tradesmen were pure evil but I put that down to personalities and the guys who did teach me were no nonsence guys who expected high standards because they took it as a slight to them if you mucked up a job and they would say being an electrician is a responsable thing you cannot afford to be lazy with safety.

So I say it again yes we are always learning but if you come on this forum dont expect touchy feely this is where they traditional world meets the new so get professional and and get rid of this I cant be bothered so I will just let somebody else tell me attitude I call this the Google mentality yep I realize there are no proper apprenticships but if you are going o make anything of yourself then you need to learn humility and learn to say thankyou so when you go for a game of footy on a Sunday with your mates is your manager giving you a bawling because he gets off on it or because you forgot half your kit and you look like a dogs dinner one side will say unacceptable the other wil say I am a victim here .

So if you want to learn on this forum then apprauch it in a professional manner ie haha lost my regs book what the Zs of a type mcb or I measured the Ze at 0.14 ohms is it a TNS or TNCS system when yo could say well I measured the Ze as 0.14 and the PFC as 2.8 and the PSSC as 2.8 . Hopefully you will come away from the forum better enlightened but also in a frame of mind that will help you work it out for yourself.

The funy thing is I see a lot of guys get themselves in a state about a question on domestics but this is only 20% of sparking and if you think its hard wait until you hit 3 phase,Hv,HVAC,BMS,Facilities maintenance,PLC control

so its the training providers and 'competent person schemes fault ', not the learner /member

No, the candidate should take at least some of the blame. Basic commonsense (though i wonder why it is called common for something so rare, lol!!) should be crying out to these people, how it is possible to become a qualified electrician in just 17 day's/4 weeks!!

I always try to be friendly and helpful on the site, however some of the questions are literally shocking! You hasve to remember its the internet though, you can turn it off and as with working on site , you have to be thick skinned! There are a lot of rubbish sparks out there, fully qualified or Electrical Trainee.
Everything expressed on this site is an OPINION, which everyone is entitled to by law, you are free to ignore someone elses opinion.

Theres a hell of a lot of experience on here and I have had quite a few issues resolved, all in a plesant manner, its very useful to get the multitude of opinions, especially when so many things are grey areas and the technical advice of NIC and the associated 'other scams' is useless.

Live and let live I say,

Another factor worth considering is where people have worked prior to joining the forum. Time served/experinced sparks have probably worked on sites at some point, or in factories, or served as an apprentice. People who have recently taken a fast track course may be from any background.

The level of abuse on this forum is like a Victorian ladies tea party in comparison to what goes on when you're on a building site or serving an apprenticeship in a factory. So while someone used to working ina different environment (an office say) may see it as abuse, someone with a different background will see it as 'putting straight' or 'taking down a peg' etc.

Whilst I would never justify bullying or abuse of any kind, I would say if what goes on within posts on here upsets someone so much that they want to leave the forum they really aren't going to like working on site. You soon learn to give as good as you get.

Never mind the report button, if you feel you are getting undeserved abuse stand up for yourself and get stuck in! You don't have to swear or get too personal to make your displeasure felt. It's not the real world, so if you gob off to the bloke you work with you can't get a clip.

Even in the abusive posts there is an opportunity to learn, pearls of wisdom, or fun to be had asking if the poster met Eddison.

What I'm saying is, don't take it or yourself too seriously.

Another thing to note is well all have blonde moments and gaps in our knowledge, even the most experienced of sparks on here. Abuse should never be tolerated but a little gentle ribbing I think is acceptable.

I would consider myself as a knowledgable spark, excellent knowledge in some areas, other areas I need to improve my knowledge, but I'll be the first to admit that. There used to be a time I was almost hesitant to ask questions on here no matter how simple or complex they may be, but now I just couldn't give a poo what people think of me and my questions/opinions as I know I help others here as much as others help me. At the end of the day, like I said earlier, a peson who asks questions has already proven themself to be (in most cases) someone who is willing to learn from others in an effort to improve their own knowledge.

If you come on here to get your homework done, or present yourself as a qualified working spark and ask questions like "do you have to earth metal conduit?" or "I've never touched three phase before, what do I do???" then you can expect a little ribbing. If however you are willing to join in, become part of the community and be as informative as possible in areas you have knowledge in, as well as humble enough to know that there are others on here that know a lot more that you do in other areas, then you shouldn't have any problems, unless of course you come across a douchebag, in which case, my first post on the thread applies and as others have said, hit the report button! :D

Thing is people should stop seeing themselves as a victim so if you have attitude and a chip on your shoulder remember the does not owe you a living plus when asking a question get as much detail as possible ie RCD trippng when lights switched on is cryptic in the best sense of the word so RCD tripping Ze=?? PSC=??PSSC=?? global IR L-N =?? IR L-E=?? IR n-E=??
