This thread is specifically made for the members on here that are only here to shoot down new guys, hurl snide abuse from afar , and basically dont want any new electricians in the world cos they think they are god gift.

Too many times have we seen new members abused and disheartened by these guys .

So heres a specific thread for you all to have a good moan .

Just a question but what's the quickest course to become a qualified spark to level of re wiring a house. I'm not interested in xperience etc I know from my trade of of 14 years that comes with time on the job.
That's the trouble.

You could easily teach someone to wire a house by telling them to do this and use that but not teach them anything about how to find a mistake which they may have made nor why they do this and use that.

They would just be an electrical fitter but not an electrician.

Replying to the original question -

There are people who ask for and deserve ridicule and abuse (not swearing).

They will not respond to "No, that is incorrect please do not work in someone else's house as it is clear you are not competent".

It's the namby-pamby politically correct attitudes which are allowing the idiots in all walks of life to thrive.

Parliament is a good example where it is a serious offence to call another member a liar.

However, the actual lying in the first place is not

The forum is open to Joe public including DIYers and not exclusively apprentices and qualifieds, i can only agree that some peoples attitude is to shoot first then ask questions but i tend to try find by either reading the terminolgy of the OP or by the nature of the question itself the level of the questioner and suitably answer on occasions the questions are so basic you class the OP as a non- electrically knowledged person only to find out they are fully fledged sparkies and i will in a non abusive manor express that this is really the most basic and should have been learnt at school never mind college.. i must also point out that new members too can have an attitude that stinks and even after giving them advice and help they throw their dummy at you and assume your head is up your own bottom.... once they reveal this side then all bets are off :tank:

But to re-iterate i do agree with the context of the OP but il also add their are alot of members out their new and old who need to learn to take constructive critisism without thinking someone having a pop at them.

It amazes me sometimes how soft the people are. This trade is tuff and it is not a game. You don’t work in this trade in a suit and there will be no mother around to caress your head.

So far, being on this forum I witnessed that 99% of abuse the OP receives is well deserved. I think firstly it is all to do with peoples attitude when they asking the questions and primarily due to how they been brought up, and secondly of the basic questions they ask and call themselves a qualified electricians wh iseworking in people’s homes and don’t know what he is doing.
When I came here 13years ago I was shocked what kids are allowed to do with parents being okay or not bothered to do anything about it, and when I see heer in the way some questions asked, it looks like everyone own them something and expecting everything brought up on the plate. I never had guts to say anything to them, and I prise the ones who does.
The way I was brought up is you always respect what you have, others , and especially seniors, where on this forum I witnessed otherwise, when you have a maybe 22 years lad replying to the well-respected senior member in his 60’s with extended knowledge,in the way that you can clearly feel the utmost disrespect shown to the oldguy.
I think if you got abused on this forum, ask yourself what you done wrong first, because most probably you did, and the kindly apologise and approach differently, but if you cannot take it that way, I suppose this forum is not for you and in fact the trade you trying to get into.
I apologise in advance if I sounded too harsh and offended anyone… And sorry for my English, when I came to this country the first word I learned was f**k, so now I kind of proud that I can speak , read and write easily even if there is countless mistakes.

Best regards

who said the students are working in peoples homes ? 99% of the people that ask questions are first year college students looking for a little help. Who are attending college 1 day a week as they cant afford to do full time., and when they cant get support or advice untill the next day of college . they come here to ask a few q's and get shot down .

The engineers and installers on here are without doubt some of the most skilled person ive come accross. however how can we expect this industry to thrive and survive if that knowledge isnt passed down ?

Those who were lucky enough ( or worked hard enough) to land an apprenticeship . Happy days , you had the best training going. But for those who are just looking to better themselves by training in a trade at least should be given a chance as apprenticeships aint as available as they used to be.

i got promised the chance to get an aviation license and a holiday to florida back in 2001 by a local asian... he offered me obscense sums of money and got a little miffed when i said NO.. i was just not that naive to belive him... think he found some one in the end..

I am talking about 5 week guys who probably start 50% of the posts here, and believe , they are working in peoples homes, and then you get students with no manners or right attitude ( not all). If you ask politely and respectfuly and with letting everyone know what level you at, you will get no abuse here 100%....

In the past this forum has been likened to a site tea hut. Imagine if some office worker strolled onto the site, burst into the tea hut and demanded to know how to fix his 'plugs' in simple, non-technical terms. I think the response would be something like "yes, and good morning to you too" possibly followed by something like "and who the hell are you?" or "what are you doing here?" The best reaction would be for said office worker to apologise for bursting in and politely introduce himself before requesting assistance, rather than declaring the tea hut unfit for purpose, calling everyone in it an 'elitist snob', slamming the door and storming off; that would most likely cause the workers in the tea hut to look at each other and say "what an idiot" rather than "we really should have helped him because that's what we're here for".

Same with this forum. I don't know about everyone else but I come here for a bit of a discussion, not to field a constant stream of poorly written questions. I have to say I really couldn't care less about how many new visitors the forum gets, how many new members are signing up or how many visitors land here from a search engine - that's not what I come here for.

F**k is not a swear word, it is a literal and oral addition to a phrase or sentence :17:apart from that, I agree some people are too soft and makes me wonder how they are going to survive in the real working world. This forum is not abusive, it is sarcastic and ironic and bloody helpful. Let it be this way. You all can call me what ever you like, no offence taken, despite being a grumpy old git. Lets all have pint and shake virtual hands, nobody is offending or abusing anyone, bare in mind some of us have hard 14 hour days or more than that

Load of rubbish. If so there are a lot of 1st year students baffled with problems in occupied dwellings.

I've noticed the hostility on here also but I just ignore it, I'm almost qualified and have worked my arse off through being out of work and unwell and trying to learn I've moved half way across the country to get work, this doesn't entitle me to be an electrician any more than anyone else just like a long apprenticeship doesn't entitle an electrician to talk down to a guy who's been in the game as long as them but got in through different ways.

One thing that strikes me is when these electricians lecture people about knowledge and being responsible, the correct response would be to acknowledge the fact that they feel the person should know about the question asked but answer it to the best of their ability because they should be looking to pass on their knowledge and ensure that people aren't putting out dangerous work.

I've worked with idiots that have gone out of their way to make my job as difficult as possible and ensure that I struggle by not providing me with the correct information, the way I deal with it is by working it out for myself or seeking advice somewhere else, to me allowing someone to struggle is not funny or clever it's plain irresponsible.

Makes me wonder why this thread was really started, what is real OP position on this . Looks like he created the thread without explaining his exact opinion, dont want to question his achievments, most probably that he is a briliant spark, but what is this human rights thing about?
At times reading some silly questions asked, and then you get theese well mannered answers, I wonder where you get the nerves to reply to them? I think the OP picked up on 0.01% which maybe over the top, but that you get everywhere in life....

Regards
