O

Octopus

So Ford are closing the "home" of the transit and moving assembly to Turkey.

Should us traders not boycot the Transit?

This time (as with past factory closures) I start off feeling sypathetic to those loosing out. Then I see or hear an interview with one of the workers and all that sympathy evaporates. "I can't believe it! I've given this company 25 years and I'm treated like this." etc. I end up shouting at the radio at this point, no one gave the company anything, you were paid (well) to do a job.

The big factory/company employee mentality is no better than those on the dole who think it's their 'right' to get paid for ever. They should think themselves lucky that they'll be getting a big pay out. The number of people out on their ear when all the small companies which have gone to the wall in the last five years far outweigh them. Yet most of them were or low wages and got nothing when they closed.

Even if I bought my own vans I wouldn't boycott Transit because,
I had a company Transit for over 2 years, thought it was O.K.

Now I've got a Vivaro,, bring back the Transit, I didn't realise how well thought out they were.

the problem with this country Murdoch is its fat n flabby....look at all the up and coming `tiger `economies....their all lean and fit....any unnecessaries have been pared off and what your left with is an infastructure that doesn`t get tangled up in itself....look at how it is here...theres more and more `officials`....people goin round in macs issuing tickets or instructions to everyone...these up and coming countrys have a ready and willing workforce free of all the crap of unions, strikes, and industrial action....(thats why ford ceased production at dagenham....constant union nonsense)...and it isn`t just that either...
A succession of badly performing ministers at the top...together with those in the ranks further down (labour & conservative) have drained this country of revenue to the point where people now simply wont be able to drive anyware without saving up for their next trip to the petrol station, they STILL havn`t sorted out MCS.(well not until they work out a way to fleece it anyway)....we still have the continuing spectre of `industrial chaos` hanging over us all like a bad smell
(you can thank Messrs Crow & Prentis for that) and the powers that be still look for more....that the public (and country) just havn`t got. Its not in Fords interest to continue production here....Ford is after all a business and so with that they`v gone to shores distant....
The sad fact is is that they (and anyone else that chooses to go)............will probably never return....

just bought one actually and it is pretty cool all round except the engine noise coming through the gear stck area, a shame they have closed the plant, problem now is vertually nothing is made here, if we boycotted anything made outside the uk we would have to ride a bike with a conduit bender strapped to the side to work and a pair of steps under the arm, I agree with your point fella in theory of course but with hardly any british manufacturing now it is kinda difficult to get involved.

JCB had this problem a while back for the 3CX sitemaster....couldn`t get certain forgings made over here `caus no-one can deal with blanks that size anymore`....so i think they were goin to germany for em....
well, thats just one example...

apparently according to ford you can buy a sock insert which will help reduce the noise, well apparently, if so why don't they fit them, you have to order it and pay extra to have it fitted, ridiculous.

Sounds about right for Ford didn't they get nailed in the states a few years ago it ended up they had to recall a lot of vehicles to fit a 3 cent part that ended up costing millions

Had 2 Transits from brand new would never again buy another biggest load of junk I ever bought and Ford's customer service people were useless when raising a complaint about the quality of the vehicles when they refused to fix one under warranty that eventually cost over a couple of grand to sort in parts, hire vehicles and lost time

I suppose now they are moving production there won't be any lemons from now on only turkey's:wink_smile::wink_smile:

The ones you have to feel for are all the workers who are probably on lower wages working for the suppliers to the ford plants.....their future isn't looking to rosy & they will not in all likely hood get big payoff's.

As for ford, well it's a sign of the times, they get a big bung from Our gov a year or so back to sell cars/vans, now that has come to an end and any contract has ended they will shift to where the wages are lower & safer from increase & where another gov can pay them to produce heir goods....so that will be anywhere that doesn't have the euro where Hermann the German can influence the proceedings or request a tax.
