TNS or TNCS supply?

S

swifters

Hi all, please see attached? TNS or TNCS supply? Looks like it could be a TNCS but no notice to say that it is? IMG-20130805-00186.jpg

OK if you cannot test kA then you should not be testing ?

Blimey, why is everyone on their high horse today! My dilog 9083p takes the pscc and pefc at the same time and only when it detects line, neutral and earth. I then press the function key to find the highest kA and ze values between the two. If there's an alternative way of finding the kA value I would like to know it but don't try and belittle me! I'm sure I'm as every bit as competent as yourself if not more so!

Regards the socket outlets in skirting’s, I have never come across sockets in skirting’s that have put under undue pressure on the supply or load cables. I have however, seen them with wooden back boxes. Surely if the cables arched/overloaded then there is a fire risk with them being mounted in the flammable wooden skirting’s? Granted most are in metallic back boxes but not all.

Should not have taken cover off and risked killing your self .You Could of used an earth loop tested to test ZE and then test between Nuetral and Live and if you get the same reading then its a TNC-S

and what about junction boxes screwed to wooden joists, CUs screwed to wood panels, sockets mounted in T/G wall planking? all could theoretically cause a fire. those sockets have probably been there for donkeys and the house still stands.

Straight from electrical safety council website:

Electricity is usually out of sight, out of mind because cables are conveniently hidden inside our walls and switches and sockets. So it’s not surprising that we forget to check our electrical installations for wear and tear. Faulty and aging wiring is one of the major causes of electrical fires in the home. You can avoid these by having regular checks carried out on the condition of your cables, switches, sockets and other accessories. There are clear signs that can help you tell the age of electrical installation in your home. These are:

  • Cables coated in black rubber (phased out in the 1960s);
  • Cables coated in lead or fabric (before the1960s);
  • A fusebox with a wooden back, cast iron switches, or a haphazard mixture of fuse boxes (before the 1960s);
  • Older round pin sockets and round light switches, braided flex hanging from ceiling roses, brown and black switches and sockets mounted in skirting boards (before the 1960s); and

swifters when you do your earth loop impedance test the PFC ka will be shown in bottom right hand corner of screen , use function button to change that reading to PSC ka , thats how I think that model works anyway. If the same TNC-S.

Yes, but it only ever seems to take a reading once line, neutral and earth are detected. I cant do a short circuit only test, it takes both the readings at the same time

I appreciate what you are saying regards sockets and fuse boxes but I think these are the area’s most susceptible to arching and overloading. Junction boxes etc. are not as susceptible. Fuse boxes in particular should be mounted on non-flammable backing. At least that is what I was taught. I would certainly give at least a c3 for a fuse box made of wood.

Try reading the manual! :-)

Have done!

Found this link mate page 18

I have just tried this on my own house which I know is TNCS. Whilst my tester lets me switch between PFC/PSC when I press the F1 key it will not let me take just the PSC on its own. It requires a Line, Neutral and Earth connection before it will take a reading...
