I'm going to be wiring up a smart home panel in a couple of weeks using mainly 0.5mm tri-rated cable and wondered what the view is on using crimped ferrules on the ends of the cables to fit into the screw terminals of the various components.
Seems like a good way to avoid poor connections with stranded cable and the neatness appeals to my OCD side!
Cheers
Rob

Indeed, cross purposes here. Soldered joints (other than dry joints!) are OK, although I do wish people would learn to make them properly, but tinned or solder-dipped ends of cables must not be put in screw terminals as mentioned above. I have seen this done so many times and they are invariably loose if not severed, or corroded from the flux. Only a few weeks ago I had to replace a 32A plug with a burned-out line terminal, where the ends had been tinned and all five cores were loose as anything due to cold flow.

OP- Bootlace!

I would just like to clarify that when i was using solder-dipped ends of cables they there for a 5 pin connector..10V :tearsofjoy:

I always use ferrules on flexible conductors, is the past I would solder the strands together to form one solid conductor.
