To do 2391 or not

J

jassyo06

Hi i am seriously contemplating doing the 2391 inspection and testing course i have just finished doing the 2330 course have got a distinction in both 302 and 303 written exams and a final distinction-distinction for level 3 which has given me a boost in the confidence department to take on the 2391 exam,i have been in the trade for a few decades so i am not some guy jumping on to a different carreer;).

My thoughts are since all of this is still fresh in my head ie the 2330 course work i thinking give a go and get it all done:d
what i want to know is surely 2391 cant be more difficult than the level 3 exams and also what benefits does 2391 give you,the exam is in june the 8th so i have almost 3 months of study to get things going.

My feelings are that just having 2330 is not enough in this job market and surely having 2391 would more desirable to employers and it would also increase your earning potential which is the most important thing to me as i have been unemployed for the last 8 months and still have no signs of a job.opinions please

Definitely go for the 2391. I am about to come out of my time in a few months and i will certainly be doing the course shortly after. As you say it will be fresh in the mind and you will be used to the study....

in the evening classes do they do practical sessions as well as the theory???

With the evening classes you do the practical assessments but you don't (or certainly we didn't) have any practical sessions to help you practice. I think some colleges offer them at extra cost - mine didn't even do that. We talked a bit about what would be expected but you were expected to be well versed in testing procedure, although they didn't expect you to know how every make of instrument worked if you had to use one of theirs. I used my own mft 1552 which calmed my nerves a bit.
If you are not completely sure on 3 phase testing then get hold of christopher Kitcher's book
THIS ONE
as it has loads of photos and really helps with that side of things.

My advice is do the 2391 its very similar to the written 301 and 302 exams of the 2330, I wouldn't however pay for the 500 + week course get some books, passed papers etc, and just book the test for about £100.
