Just heard on radio that a guy has been confronted by some locals after a spate of tool thefts. Whether he was guilty ir not hes now dead...
Im not advocating murder but is it a surprise when the police do absolutely nothing to investigate this van crime epidemic. Surprised there hasnt been more such cases.
Lancashire man dies after being detained by two neighbours | Daily Mail Online - http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5059691/Man-dies-detained-two-vigilante-neighbours.html?ITO=1490&ns_mchannel=rss&ns_campaign=1490

My nieces boyfriend has two jobs, part time fire fighter and a guard in a youth offenders centre. He is a good lad who always tries to do his best. Last year three of these offenders decided to set about him which laid him off work for a month. He was told that when he returns to work he would be the subject of an enquiry and possible disciplinary action why, one of said offenders made a complaint that he was assaulted when this lad hit him in an attempt to protect himself.
So no I have zero sympathy with any of them dead or alive.

The law allows reasonable force in self defense.
There was nothing creative about that post, the offenders centre has a policy that none of the offenders are to be subject to abuse from the guards no matter what the circumstances. He struck one blow that was all. He was unfortunate that another policy of two guards when dealing with offenders was over looked by the powers that be due to staffing problems and he suffered the consequences.

Sorry to hear that Westie. As a parent I would council him to not go back, as they clearly do not support their staff. Having done it once I'm sure these delightful chaps would be looking for opportunities to do it again.

Thanks Wilko, the place is a hot pot waiting to boil over and there is little they can do. He hates the place but he has a young family and doesn't want to be out of work, his heart is in fire fighting but is finding it hard to get a permanent position.

I have read through this tonight, and in my opinion there is far too much liberal rubbish being spouted by a certain few. People who steal tools from trades vans, or break into peoples houses, are the scum of the earth. They know very well what they are about and the consequences, and they do not give a monkeys. I couldn't give a ---- who loves them or what habit they have to feed, they should be made to work their sorry butts off for a couple of years repaying the society for which they have such little regard. There is far too much regard for these parasites human rights and far too little regard for the victims in our society in my opinion.

I actually read something by a barrister the other day about defending guilty clients, it was really eye-opening. He said that unless the defendant confesses guilt to them, they have to try to prove them innocent, which absolutely makes sense. If they do confess to their defending team then they aren't allowed to mislead the jury or court regarding that.

He went on to say that their opinion or thoughts on the defendants guilt is totally irrelevant, and it's the job of the jury to decide, but that to maintain professional integrity they had to do the absolute best job to defend their client as is possible. This obviously makes it harder to convict guilty parties, but it's designed to ensure the least amount of innocent people end up wrongly convicted due to lax questioning, etc.

In years gone by I worked with a solicitor. At court if he believed his client he would say ' my client did ...', otherwise he would say ' my client will say....'. They earned their money and did their job & tied to sleep at night.

The justice system is a joke in all honesty, more crim's are given soft lenient punishments due simply to the fact that prisons are busting at the seems, if I caught a thief actively breaking into my van and I ended up in a scuffle with no witnesses and he came worse off then I would be at the bad end of the justice system and they would walk regardless of their history... it's my opinion and maybe not to everyones liking is if they are caught in the act then rough them up and play their game and deny everything... Ill feel alot better for that than having a judge throw the case out on a technicality given (s)he has as form for this type of crime.
Half my family are in the force and the frustration they get from catching these scum 10's of times only to see the system let them off deflates them and is a kick in the private parts for any law abiding person, I stop short of promoting a vigilante stance but a film like Law Abiding Citizen or Taken don't score such a high rating solely because they are well made, it does so because people sympathise with them as they rarely see crim's getting proper justice in real life.

I completely agree, however there were some people at the start of this thread applauding the fact that somebody died in the hands of vigilantes. That can never be right.

Matter of personal opinion isn't it as to how people view it.

I once came out of a supermarket to find some scroat had keyed the full length of my car, (definitely wasn't a trolley). I was absolutely incandescent with rage, and I suspect if I'd caught the culprit in the act I'd have probably lost it completely, so I do get the frustration.
BUT, the problem with vigilantes and acting outside of the proper judicial process is that the wrong people WILL get pasted. People acting on mistaken identity, rumours or malicious lies, or more likely simply stupid people getting carried away in the moment.
And I'm sorry, but anyone pleased with a lynching for an alleged theft resulting in a death, whether indirectly caused or not.....well enough said.

Yes agree totally with you, the whole thing is absolutely nothing to rejoice in. You have to hope that the two guys didn't set out to kill him, and if they had just given him a good hiding then most on here would be saying bravo. The consequences and feeling of devastation of these sorts of crimes need to be brought home to these scumbags somehow, and at the end of the day people have to take responsibility for their own actions. We are far too soft on these people when they are caught, and that is probably the reason these guys were heavy handed. If they though once apprehended a serial offended would be taken out of society then this might not have happened. There is also blame to lay at people who buy obviously nicked tools as well, maybe there needs to be some kind of national serial number register like caravans and such?
PS do you like my new Avatar? it is a dog and not a Gorilla;)
