Tripping 6amp breaker

Is it a strip light in the kitchen and is it ES light in the bathroom ?

This intermittent fault tho that I'm told was on the bathroom lighting !!!!!!!!!

If its not to the light and I replaced the switch do you think it could be the next in line .yeh silly Q i know but my head is smashed to bits (look ) AAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Im placing my money on moisture or a nail touching the live earth intermitantly , i know its been mentioned but , i had a ring circuit trip an MCB 10.30 smack on the nose every friday night never any other time ,did all the tests all ok still tripped so i tested it straight after it had tripped IR down to 0.00 2 mins later >200 meg it was bizar the fault was located to a Rat eaten piece of cable straight through a rats loo and it was moisture that was causing it , one thing that could also be some check to make sure no ones nailed above a light switch for pictures etc ,could just be making contact

It was a E/S Light in the bathroom This was not switched on, but i changed it to it to a G9 25W

Just seems funny how it went from 3 hour trip to 24 hour trip then back to 3 hour trip.

I'ts always after this kitchen light has been on or so they say !

Had a lot of problems with e/s bulb tripping stuff mainly RCD's tho but thought id mention it.

Also if there is any fluorescent totally disconnect them as ive had problems with these the same as your problem even when not switched on

The other thing ive just thought have you tried taking the wire out of the cu and putting into a jb and a new bit from there

If this intermittent fault was on the bathroom lighting then this could be it.

I replaced the bathroom light the other day. Then today refit a G9

If this is the problem then me pulling on the cable may be the solution ie:moving the cable a small amount could be causing it to arc but if no power going to the light how would it arc

Id say e/s bulbs 70% of house but only 2 had power on at a time when tripped

I think he is saying use a new short length of cable coming out of the CU from the lighting circuit breaker, neutral bar and earth bar and then connect this cable to the existing lighting cable in a JB, presumably just to check the terminations are OK? Not sure.

Try drawing out the lighting circuit and see if you can follow where the cabling goes and perhaps get to a point where you are saying "hang on a minute whats this", might give you an idea.

If it is standard loop in out lighting then you can split the circuit at the fittings and just have half working (use standard lamps / torches elsewhere) just to check each section.

Barring an intermittent/ cable trapped/ nailed cable, if you have tested the entire lighting circuit and it is showing OK, then it follows that the problem will be with the items not tested i.e. lamps and fluorescent fittings. Disconnect one by one and wago the connections and see what happens.

I had problem with the wire inside cu when it was getting hot it was shorting due to poor wire, it was fine when did this, the other reason i did this was so i could put a fcu with 5amp fuse then use a bigger mcb help pin point the problem.

I know its a long short but thought id mention it as silly as it sounds

Switch all the lights on and then run madly round the house jumping up and down and hammering on the walls.

Even if it doesn't work you might feel better!!!!!!!!
