I am working on a TT system and the electrics are tripping all the time, I have narrowed it down to the downstairs light circuit. Everytime when this light circuit is connected at the board and if I try to turn the oven (on the cooker circuit) or boil a kettle. ( ring main) it trips the electrics, but when the lightning circuit is disconnected everything works fine. I have done the insulation. Test and its ok am now running out of idea. Because it seems the lighting circuit is interfering with the cooker circuit and ring downstairs main. But how its happening........... I am hitting a brick wall.

Help please

I had to reposition a light switch on this light circuit and I have since double checked my wiring. The rcd is tripping not the mcb

In which conductor do we usually put switches and which ones still have a path back to the CU?
Did you read what I quoted?

In this case a water logged external light is unlikely as that would normally be present on all conductors wheras this has the classic symptoms of a N-E fault.
Unless a Perm live is in an external light, how are you going to have an L-E fault with it switched off?

Mannex if you'd answered some of the very relevant questions you've been asked on this you could have this sorted long before now. You appear to be a trainee and as such should be working under supervision, your reluctance to answer this one makes me, and a few others, think you're doing jobs on the side which is way out of order.
If you're not a trainee or a DIYer then it has to be said that this is pretty basic stuff so you're obviously out of your depth.
Knock it on the head and get someone in who is competent enough to know what is staring you in the face and who can resolve.

thank you to everyone who replied to the post i posted, the tripping was caused by an old cable in the shed which was not terminated properly and the owner had no knowledge of it. insulation was disintegrating causing earth to neutral fault. problem is now solved and made safe

My guess is an earth to N fault in the damaged light fitting. This will become a problem when other devices draw large currents.
