as mentioned in a previous post i wanted to use my sisters property as a way of joining elecsa, after a previous quote she had for a rewire of ÂŁ3600 like for like but incorporating pvc channeling all around the house! i tried to quote for this myself but as the costs of labc elecsa and insurance books etc added up as well as a propper job ( i think?) i quoted ÂŁ1800.i sent her a list of works in the style of original quote and she just rang me saying her husband wants a list of how i came up with the quote ie materials etc..
will try to add my list of works to thread but a document file any ideas how i can do this because i don't know how?

i have spent alot of time and effort into this and i know material wise they are going to knitpick every item in a materials list that i have roughly put together on a peice of scrap papper.
i dont mind doing a materials list or explaining to them that they are paying nearly a grand on getting it sighned off because i have added nearly 30 extra sockets where needed mostly chased and where possible a total rewire.

one of the problems i have is the amount of cable generaly used on a 3 bed house 2.5 ,1.5 any ideas? apart from walk!!

anyways had my rest and a few beers.
this morning i started a materials list until i realised the joke of the situation although it was good practise for quoting jobs in the future as its unbelievable how al those small things like gromits and rawl plugs add up,eventualy though i decided that i would pass on a peice of paper with a bit of what i did, stating also another 10 million items needed,
i think it came out at least 700 quid then! if any more questions on price i am going to leg it.

before i do anything can i question you guys on tt suplies rcd protected building a pit as i have never seen this done before.
1 how many rods what size?
2 depth of rods?
3 how far do i have to dig ,kango and shovel?
4 can i use cango to hammer rods down?
5 as rcd protected and i only have multi- function tester how can i check what i have done.

1) depends on the soil conditions (worst case)
2)deeper the better...a little rhyme i have `depth is key with TT`
3)just dig deep enough for the top of the inspection pit to be flush with surrounding
4)yes, use the rotary hammer on rotary stop (hammer only) to drive em in
5)loop at the MFT..in the usual way....this is the Ra...

take three rods...go for the bigger ones that you can extend...you can get an end cap to protect em as you hit em in...you can get connectors so you hit the first rod in until its nearly fully in..then connect the second rod onto the first..and carry on....but you may not need any more than 1-2 rods..but if you get a third one...just in case you need it

1 how many rods what size?
2.3m rods are what we use and usually between 3 and 7 of them connected together.

2 depth of rods?
Keep knocking them in on top of each other until you get the impedance reading you're looking for

3 how far do i have to dig ,kango and shovel?
Dig the first meter with a spade in case there's other services in the way.

4 can i use cango to hammer rods down?
Yep, if you have an attachment for it.

5 as rcd protected and i only have multi- function tester how can i check what i have done.
You need and earth impedance tester, a multi-function tester won't work.

Why dont you phone the supplier up and tell them you cant find an earth or cant get a low enough reading - they will come out free of charge and change the TT to a PME (TNC-S) supply free of charge.
(WELL THATS WHAT WESTERN POWER DOES!

All they do is make sure at the main pole (with the transformer) the earth spike is crimped to the neutral supply - if its not they will crimp it there and then and give you a PME supply.

I have done it twice and now trying to persuade a 3rd that PME is better than TT.
