Discuss Urgent: 60 amp main cut out fuse required in the UK Electrical Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

If the dno can come out with the fuse I'll do that. It'll save me driving about and buying one but the dno is not going to find the fault hence why I wanted a fuse so I could get them back with power.

Anyway I need some sleep as I'm going back first thing to sort them out at very much more reasonable rate.

Sigh........!

Ok, it's not your responsibility to fiddle with cut outs. I understand you are trying to do your best for them, but instead of driving about looking for a fuse that you are not authorised to change.

May I suggest you return in the morning, call the DNO and while you are awaiting their arrival bulk IR test the installation at the main switch. If theres a fault substantial enough to take out the bullet then it will show itself as a dead short.

I was somewhat amazed by this thread, first thing I would have done is call DNO emergency no., especially as you really shouldn't even be thinking about sorting something out that you have no authority to mess with. You should have concentrated on finding out WHY is blew! IMHO.

I'd never dream of useing a rusty old nail to replace the fuse!!!........far better to use a bright shiney new nail as it'll last longer...

A 2" nail fits in just fine and is about 1000 amps in rating, never need to worry about it blowing again, remove all RCDs and MCBs and refit bs 3036s and use 60 amp fuse wire in these, whatever happens a fuse will never blow again, ssssimples :26:

Maybe the fuse that blew was a KMF .... ?

Does it say anywhere it was the DNO cutout - just re reading ....

Ah - 1st post! "main cut out". Hi Robert I guess it's the Service head then. Same as has been said you shouldn't be replacing that esp if blown, get paid your hour call out to phone the DNO  & try work out where the (as has been said) rather fundamental fault is....

I put a nail thru 16mm t&e feeding top play I was working In, it took out the 60A switched fuse for the flat and the main 60A cut out, I called DNO who changed the main after I repaired the fault and the guy gave me 3 old fuses and a hand full of seals "just it case"

Well personally I wanted to be their when the fuse went in to make sure I had the fault fixed. Given the day it is and the time waiting about for the Dno and the fact it was 30 miles from my home, I decided was best to take half hour of my time to get some fuses.

One happy customer who was about to up root a family for Christmas
