Hi All, Doing a big remedial job on a factory and changing main incoming tails to 240mm. On inspection found there was no bonding to water and gas. Surely that doesnt mean i need 60mm bonds? also does the clamps HAVE to be bonded next to the incoming water and gas meters or is there a 'get out clause' where you dont have to do it?? If so this could end up being a 60metre run :saddam:

Thanks in advance

If the factory is a steel framed structure, you can bond out the whole area using the bonded steel work.
Where steel framed buildings are concerned i'd probably bond with 50mm to the main earth bar and 25mm from steelwork to any other service that needs bonding... saves an on awful lot of single core bonding cable!! lol!! This should be more than adequate for a 630A supply, which i'm assuming, given the cable size quoted. ...lol!!

For bonding from the MET to structural steel I’ve always used 70mm or 1” x 1/8” copper tape = 80mm. Simply because it was up to the job and always on stock.
I don’t care what size CPC you run, you aren’t going to match 10K tonnes of steel.

Wot is that anyway? (besides your own private holiday home) - grain storage, cheap hotel, worlds largest straight 8 engine?

would it be permissible to bond structural steel work at the MET and then bond gas and water to the steel close to point of entry? (assuming that a compliant resistance reading is obtained)

What happens when the steel work starts to rust at the joints in due time?
and the unbeknown to any one, the resistance has increased many fold?

Well thats what annual inspections are for.
D'oh , i'll excuse your blond moment lol.

Do you do a lo-resistance test on the bonding when you do EICR?

Is there a box for the bonding continuity resistance vaue?

or is there a tick box, bonding cable present at water & cable size, and bonding cable present at Gas & cable size?

Not a value but there's a box for continuity check so it's a tick, cross or LIM if you're one of the people who can't be bothered!

They are lime kilns. The pipes you can see are mainly gas.

My old workshop is the open door with the red sign above it in the bottom RH corner.
It’s 20+ years since I crashed the land rover in to the door, it’s still got the steel straps I put across the back to hold it together!
The 11KV substation is on the roof.
