whats the point of this forum? its getting a bit boring these days , someone asks a question ( some completely stupid ) and all they get is are you competent , are you stupid , what does the regs book say , they are asking a question because they don't know the answer , if guys on here don't like it then just don't comment on it , all i see is pages and pages of the same guys and the same dribble , the guys in question are very helpful and know their stuff but are just letting themselves down lately.

so this means we are all supposed to just tell them off the cuff are we?

without encouraging them to go look for the answers themselves....caus many of the authors of such stuff probably dont even own a regs book...never mind look through one...

but its just easy isn`t it to drop in here in a lazy kind of fashion...

Right now hold on..... What's the earthing arrangements here eh??? Zs ????

A forum for electricians I believe, If the OPs when asking a question give some information then they will get more help, of late it is almost one sentence only with no info or any attempt at the answer. Ah well who cares life is just too short.

But the problem is they are charging the public for a service that they quite clearly aren't competent to do, I know we all have to learn and all of us have come unstuck at some point, but if things were how they should be then the people who don't know answers to things should have a mentor who they should be working with, but all the new kids go on a short course and bang their self employed and then they come unstuck. They shouldn't be learning at the publics expense its a bloody recipe for disaster and that's my gripe.

exactly so why get so annoyed just let them get on with it and don't comment , it just seems to be every thread these days

I think we should all sit round a camp fire singing come by arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh my lord

I quite agree - how come there are so many ill prepared so called sparks then?

I think that the "training" sponsors of this site deliberately tell their "students" to become members here to supplement their grossly inadequate training.

A lot of the questions come from people who have sat electrical exams. Yet the lack if information in some of them is ridiculous. If they had a exam question with no info in them and they failed, it's safe to say they wouldn't be happy.

Yet they seemingly come on here and expect us to do just that.

What do you mean "these days"? It's always been like that - someone asks a question that they would know if they were competent to do the job and they get shot down in flames. It's been happening as long as people have been starting threads like this moaning about people having a pop at DIYers and 5WWs.

And it was the same when I was at college - ask a question you should know the answer to and you get called an idiot and shot down in flames. Many like to see this forum as an extension of the real world.

Besides, why should a panel of question-answerers give up their free time to sit here answering questions which people should have learned the same way, through experience?
I've asked questions on this forum and got some thought provoking answers, I often then go off and do something completely different, but I find it useful to bounce ideas around, which is what I feel this forum should be for.
